Yup--still messed up. Something to do with Micropuff's domain server I believe...
Will send later. With as many people that use Hotmail, it's going to be like Old Faithful erupting when they "turn it on". https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/Suckers are too busy deleting everybodys mail. I got a letter the other day that said I was over my limit in MB of storage and if I didn't get rid of it by the 25th, they'd do it for me. Mighty thoughtful, huh?
If ya'll haven't done so already, you'll want to make a Windows 98 Startup disk (can do it under Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs). I'd use that, rather than the Ultimate Boot disk--will be less confusing to follow the instructions HERE to FDISK (partition) and FORMAT your new hard drive. This is probably one of the best and most simple to understand tutorials on the subject---very straightforward. Recommend printing all of them out and have it handy when ready to prep the system for 98 installation. Takes you though from FDISK to installing 98. Ignore that section on Special FDISK commands--don't screw around (at least right now... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/). You'll need the following:
Win 98 Startup floppy
Full version of 98--or an Win 98 Upgrade version and a Win 95 CD. (Do NOT try to use a "Recovery CD" from an OEM computer).
CDs/floppies of all your other software.
Export copy of all your e-mail addresses and Favorites (can get them all on one floppy).
Copies of any bmps, icons, cursors that would be "lost" if something goes wrong.
Setup copies of any programs that you feel the world would end if you lost them.
Printed copy of the tutorial (fdisk, format and 98 installation).
(Hang on to that Ultimate Boot Disk--it'll come in handy for future operations--but for right now, recommend use the Win 98 Startup).
May be being redundant here, but it is NOT necessary to install 95 if using the Win 98 Update CD. Early in the Setup, it will ask to "see" Windows 95. You just have to remove the 98 Update CD, insert the 95, and point the program to that CD--it reads/checks, then you'll be prompted to put the 98 CD back in. Then carry on your merry way. As soon as Windows is fully installed, you'll be surprised to see that your monitor screen appears out-of-whack...don't panic. It's that generic PCI VGA driver that Windows installed. I wrote up all the details on that "tweak sheet' on how, and most importantly, when to make the appropriate adjustments to the screen. Will e-mail that sheet to you (and anyone else who needs it) when M$ corrects their "Little Problem".

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/OH GOOD! Pictures ! I think I can handle this!
Thank's bistro! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I saved it in my favorites but I have no black ink right now. Have to copy and paste into word pad and switch to blue. (like my workaround Mosaic? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ )
But when I get over to Office depot and pick one up I will print. Just in case this computer should have some problem at the time I get ready...Little bugger better not! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Thought you'd like that, QOH! Seriously though, the pics are pretty good and helps folks like you and others who are taking their first brave steps into a whole new world of adventure and intrigue; a compass for all of you out on a dark and stormy sea of inexperience, heading for the warm safe harbor of cyber-knowledge; an experienced guide through the treacherous jungles of confusion to the El Dorado of Installation Success and Fortune; a guiding light to...(*AAAAAA SHADDUP, BISTRO!!!*)
Anyway...the pictures help I think....
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ bistro,
What about all my Windows Updates ? SP1, the shutdown patch, etc. When I go to the Windows update site, does it read my computer or look up some kinda record](using the Product Key Code in my registry or ISP, email... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/...whatever it uses to be able to tell) of what I already downloaded from my last visit ?
What I mean is...will it think I already have those things because I put them on here or is it going to read my new system and know what I need ?
QoH, Train said something about this.

hey guys,
threads going great.
just thought that a good idea would be a system spec of the components that you have settled on so far for those people who may just start reading from delta 13 or not from the beginning if that makes sense.
hope everything goes well.

Brian
