Ahhh... another side of the Nixmeister. Yeah, that's it, let's start a flame war...
There are many reasons people like to use no-CD patches, so back off in your own jack yard.

...legalities aside
True... Personally, I've used them now and again in a 'legal' manner. I own the game. Now, the EULA will no doubt have a different opinion.Quote:

Go read the Copyright Act 1968 again. Division 4A makes a few allowances for modification that can't be contractually excluded, but avoiding copy protection isn't one of them. That means when the copyright owner says 'you're not allowed to modify this software' in a license agreement, you're not allowed to modify it.Quote:

As for backup copies, subsection 47C(4)(b) specifically excludes the exception for backup copies (ie leaves making backup copies illegal) if the CD is copy protected.
For what it's worth, I do both of those - having to put a CD in is a pain, and if I can't find a no-CD crack I'll keep a backup copy so I don't have to be so careful with it. That doesn't make it legal though.
It's a matter of the 'letter' of the law and the 'spirit' of the law. Too many go beyond those parameters and into illegal areas.
Yes... Nix, I'd like my toast with peanut butter... while it's still hot so it melts into it. Yum!
What a shame.
I was enjoying this thread.
The last 16 posts are exactly the reason why V Dr does not have a gaming forum and discourages gaming discussion.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
