Have at it! ;) :D :D
EDIT: For those who wish for a print freindly version, look down below the last post in the center. there is a little box with 3 icons in it.
The right one , when clicked will give you the first page. But then if you look in the top Right there is a link that will show all posts in the thread. And if you wish, go to File, select save as, and under type I select Web Archieve single file (*.mht) and click save after naming and selecting where I want to put it.
Hooray for out side. Those "missing 14.3GB were where you told me they would be Train!! Another oversight by me. I got a message that I should run a Through scan of the drive but instead I ran a standard but I will run a through later--I promise. But while I was at it, I ran a standard scan on the D drive and I got a message that there were more than one FAT files on the drive and that they should be the same but weren't. Then the question" REPAIR IGNORE. I canceled out until I could ask you even tho I started to hit REPAIR but didn't. After you tell me, I'll go back and finish the job.
What do/did you think of my proposal I made in my last thread regarding my hard drives?
BTW, I wanted you to be able to enter the thread that would record 100 threads in this subject--for a first for smurfy and an infamous and dubious distinction for you.
What next Coach? I feel like I(we) are making progress now.
greengoose1, whatever good things are to be said about these threads all go to Train. A lot of editing, I must say :D
Buf, One of the hardest things to do is to tie the hardware and software together in proper perspective and the correct relationships so another can understand. It has been done here.
By copying this thread to Word and then editing out what is not needed gives a person information not normally seen presented in this manner. And which can be used as a resource stored on a computer.
:) :)
Boy, do I recognize having done the same.
You can see if scandisk can correct it.
But to do it correctly, you will need to go back into fdisk, select remove all partitions and then do so. exit fdisk. REBOOT
Now you can start from scratch. The reboot is needed to clear anything on the boot sector.
Sure glad scandisk caught the error.
I did that so, I started over.
Now if you want print out the instructions I posted for delpart, download the file and try it. Sure is faster than Fdisk at removing partitions. But remember to save and exit delpart then reboot when back to the A:\
Do the fdisk stuff, reboot, format D:
when done Format E:
when that is done, hook everything back up and see what each says under properties when you R- click the drives. Fat 32 is what we are looking for.
"BTW, I wanted you to be able to enter the thread that would record 100 threads in this subject--for a first for smurfy'
No problems with that.
First in this forum, true. But do a search for Delta in the Hardware forum.
But, I am happy that they upgrades the forum , because under the programing, we would have had to start a new thread at about 60 post. Very slow opening and they had a habit of disappearing clear off the server once they hit something over 60 sometimes. Just past history there.
ALRIGHT!!! I tried scan disk again for the error on Drive D and am most happy to report that REPAIR did it's job. What a relief. My finger tips are practically raw from attaching/removing/reattaching those ribbons. Boy, those ends are rough on my skin. I really didn't feel up to doing it again--so soon any way. Scandisk reported 1,064,960 bytes found in 42 lost file fragments. I saved them to a file and just re-checked My Computer and Drive D now shows used space to be 1.02MB and Free space to be 14.3GB; capacity 14.3GB and Fat 32 :D
What's next? I am standing by and you have my full attention;)
Yeah, I am getting happier.
Those are the scandisk files and they can be safely deleted.
I would also.
Ok, now you are ready to do your cloning.
You want to clone[copy] partition to partition.
That isC:\ [1st hdd {1st partition}] to D:\ [2nd hdd {1st partition}]
Now we want to clone[copy] NOT IMAGE here.
Bedtime for me, on the clock at 04 AM my time tomorrow..
You are gone already but good night anyway and thank you for a fruitful evening. Things are now coming together. Hard to beat the A Team!! May Wednesday be good to you.
I'll have to do some searching and reading about cloning or copying partitions--another first because I haven't done that before either!!
Drive Image "Instructional Videos
Now that should help out a bit.
Man what a thread......Train you took the ball and ran with it on this one....I am an avid Drive Image user as you know.....but reading this thread...I even learned a thing or 2.....great thread....one that should be archived...
Train:
Now you are getting the accolades and recognition you so rightly deserve for the far "above and beyond" help you have given here. Thanks folks, and try as you may, it is I who have gained the most and my puter appreciates it also:D
Thanks for the DI pictorial tutorial reference link.
I think I found those 42 files that I deleted in the scan on Drive D that were showing 1,064,960 bytes as possible backup of FAT. These are those you told me to delete and I found them in:
Win Explorer>Drive 1(D)>42 chk files=1.01MB. I haven't deleted them yet BUT will upon your nod to do so.
buf
Go ahead and dump them. Get them off the computer, as if they get activated for some reason, you could lose everything.
Sarrkazztic
Thanks for the good words :D
And I still ain't been able to get that DI 2002 boot cd to work like I want it to. :( But other than that, it sure is a winner. :D :D
Train:
Thank you for confirming---those 42 files are now deleted!!
I hate to seem dumber than but I cannot view those tutorials at the link you gave. This machine won't open .snt files or least I have not been able to find anything in "open with" box.
So, I have not been able to look at those. I did go into DI2002 and click on Copy Drives and read that but rapidly became confused. I had no answer for item 4. Replace or Backup; among other things there.
Right now, my HDD are configured as follows:
OLD hdd is on the Primary IDE as Master.
NEW hdd is on the Secondary IDE as Master
CDR is not hooked up.
I am most willing and will be happy to leave them where they are but I realize that I would have to change the NEW hdd from Master to Slave because the CDR would have to the Master on the Secondary ribbon. On the other hand, I haven't any reservations about exchanging the hdd positions on the ribbons and the jumpers. I will reliably rely on your directions. Would the partitions make a difference as what position the hdd should be in?
I went back tonight and ran a thorough scan on Drive D and there were not any errors shown. Should I run one on Drive E? If I am being overly cautious at this point, it is because everything now seems to be coming together--all because of your sticktutiveness. As always, raise any question to me that you have that I have not thought of to ask of you.
EDIT: I had this in a temporary file to ask you about and now I can't remember the question so I'll post it here anyway:

HUMMM, have to check that out. Wiil post when done.
