Thanks for the info. I will take the case apart and get the numbers off the MB tomorrow and check that site out.
There is a huge difference in the two cases. Thanks train.....
Max, welcome back to living and half way insane. Checked that site out, if there store isn't any better than the site, then I sure wouldn't want to help pay their salary..

Train,
Tomorrow, I use the telephone first, before I go anywhere... Good for a laugh, though. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Bistro,
I made your anthem famous by adding it to the Theoran page. Check the link in the comments forum thread. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Dodge, be careful of static electricity and such. Got an anti static wrist Guard? Those individual componets are small and it doesn't take much to upset them onthe boards.

I have recently built a very nice machine using the AMD Athlon 900 processor for well under $1000, no monitor but you should be able to do it if you shop around carefully. If you want specifics on my machine I will send them....

Thanks for lists. I posted in win98 awhile back for a place to get win98 full install. I do have a disk from MS for the second edition updates. They charged me about $24.00 for it. You guys know where 98 is still available. I really don't want to go to the on-line auctions. Just can't bring myself to trust them.
MAXX That would be a de asster if there ever was one
Dodge The S500 is easier to work with. Believe me. Am about done working on this A500, Not home. Had to add the front fan and backdown the video card, so testing it out. Not bad, but I have BETTER

Hi, I am a Computer Science and Elec eng student in college so I know a good amount about all this stuff, but I need some advice/help. I plan on as soon as I have money doing 1 of 2 things to my computer to upgrade. I will either jump up the speed of the CPU while leaving the motherboard the same, or get a dual processor motherboard and reuse my original chip until I can afford another to do the dual.
First situation....I have a Dell Dimension XPS T500 mhz computer, Pentium III, 256 MB RAM, Geforce 2 64mb video card,Windows ME (also have 98SE install CD if needed) and I plan on upgrading to Windows XP pending its release, etc. etc. the rest i dont think is too important. I want to, if possible, leave the motherboard the same and get a 1000mhz processor to throw in. Will this work? Since i did have a PIII and still will, will the motherboard handle this?
Second Situation. If I were to get a new motherboard that can handle dual processors how should I go about doing that? If possible I would like to keep my processor and put it in the dual capable motherboard and leave it at that until I can afford to get the processor/processors to make it dual run....Can I do this or do I need to get a different processor right away too? Is there any other things that will not perform right with this change? Do I need any kind of controller to keep everything smooth on a more complicated dual processor system?
And one last thing....for all the things I mentioned, what are the approx. prices I whould be looking for? Thanks a lot!! Josh Zimmerman
Train,
The "de asster" comment had me on the floor. It's a classic. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
bjcurrie,
Welcome aboard. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ That's what this thread is all about. I'm sure the wizards would love to critique your system. Besides, if we don't have something to talk about, greengoose won't have any more Delta threads https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Dual prossessors, first your windows programs have to be written for then. NT and Some versions of NT are and they are intended for servers. So, bad news there for you.
Second:
Bistro posted this earlier and you need to do the same. But, I would recommend, because of your propietary system, to Build new as I do believe you will be happier.
Quote: Basically you need to know what format it is--AT, Baby-AT, 'mini' (or 'micro')ATX, ATX; then pick the appropriate case. To I.D. the manufacturer, you can get the numbers off of it and go to
Motherboard Homeworld and find the manufacturer.
What's the model/number of your computer?

What numbers do I need to get off the MB to find the specs for it. These are the only ones I could find.. MS1981258-M6P675-B04-04565 and 9amt267382. I did a search of them and couldn't find anything. Thanks....
