When ordering the case, include the following: 2x fans, 300W or better power supply, 1 or 2 extra slide brackets, definitely a packet or two (for extras)of mobo standoff screws. Mobo standoffs all come in different threadings--the ones available from Directron fit the S500. Also, those type of slide brackets are hard to find when you need them (they're not the "generic" type you generally see in the comp stores).

Mosaic! What a great idea to save money on parts! I've got an aquaintance with a $10,000 limit on his card...think I'll give him a call.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

OK, that's it. Take advantage of a person who can't see the posts but who can post an answer I think, I hope. Mosaic, you are indeed, a pushy person. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ A credit card number? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ It would probably be cheaper for me in the long run to have you tell me what you want to order. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ And you're a buddy. Hmmmmmmm https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ I don't think Chucky would ask that. HEE HEE
Thanks for the info guys. Try and keep Mosaic in line till I get to my Compost. (She never ceases to amaze me.)

QoH:
I noticed in an earlier post, you asked about deleting the CAB files to make more room on your hard drive. Personally, I like to keep the CAB files. It is a tremendous resource when you have to reinstall hardware drivers or Windows crap!

Mosaic
That would be a cheap way to get a new computer, yes indeed. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Booted up using the bootdisk and got the readme files , which saves to the Temp folder. So they can be read on the windows side. 16 files in there. some even have the dos type commands and all. Ranish is about the only name I recognized.

Time to start uninstalling again. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I am reading about setting up the BIOS.
What an ordeal. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I also discovered this little bugger comes with the Motherboard. It's a chip!
AND if mine ever gets all beat up or wore out, I can possibly get a new one.
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/I thought it was a program you installed.

Q_O_H
I have flashed [read upgraded] my bios a couple times. They were updates. The first time I printed the instructions, yes the warnings are intimidating, then when I was ready, I followed them in making the floppy, shutting down, insert floppy wait i5 seconds turn on, follow on screen prompts, etc.
Not hard, but first time,, nervous, yes https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

OK, Mosaic and Train,
I'm not going to fret about this. As long as there are instructions with the Motherboard on what to enable and what to disable and my specific settings.... I'll survive. (and get here https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ )
Yes Mosaic two months ago none of this stuff made any sense. Today, I talked to one of my customers (repairs Hospital Equipment...Cat Scans, X-Ray etc. for GE) who waited while I worked, about building this thing , and I felt very comfortable when he asked questions about what size this and how many rpm's, Mhz and MB and Watts. He did not roll his eyes once. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
...I even answered a few questions about his computer. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Morning All, Thanks for info on ordering. Lost my shipping supervisor for 3 to 6 months on our expansion project(TDY). Oh well, it will work out. Will change over sections tonight. This one getting long.
My thought is to build identical to QoH so we have two units exactly alike. Outside of manufacturers this usually does not happen that I am aware of. Then individual changes would take place. Lots of benifits to this as we go on especially in troublshooting etc. LOts of possibilities actually. We would be able to compare "stuff". Later. Be well. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

QOH: Don't worry too much about setting up the BIOS---it's designed to detect most of what you'll need to boot up. When ready for first boot, you'll let it do a hard drive detection, then save the settings. Later, we can help you "tweak" it.
-
Ok. I'll worry this morning about whether my case will be here at 12:42.... or 12:43 https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I just know how confused I feel when I've been in the BIOS on this computer. It's uncharted territory.
Then main thing I noticed when reading how to set it up was to be sure it halted on errors. I don't anticipate any of those, so I'll ignore that part! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Had some fun last night "modding" the PC innards. Got it all configured now--ran a CPU/vid card intensive benchmark program 3 times in a row while watching the CPU and system (case) temps. CPU never got above
100 F and the case stayed at 80 F. Hoo-hah!
When I can get ahold of a digital camera, will post a pic or two of it with explanation. But that's for later---concentrate now on just getting the *&^% parts and putting it together. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Poor UPS guy.....he doesn't realize he has a big lipstick kiss on his cheek. Hope somebody brings that to his attention before he gets home. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ .....Surely he'll look in his rear view mirror.
I'm opening the box now! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
