Thanks. That is very useful info. Did you have to do anything in order to get such an account or just ask about one?

Just go to acronis.com>Home>My Account, from a drop down menu pick Product Registration and you will get a screen to either register or log in if you already registered.
Thanks again x71s8zTN. This line in your earlier post is what threw me because I didn't recall seeing it in the products update: Direct download link for a full version if you lost your copy. It lists the last version and build update but I did not see a provision to download a copy if I had "lost" mine. I do know that after you download the last build then that option is removed and is no longer available. Now, maybe one can ask Acronis for a site to download the full version again. Somehow I doubt that because I suspect they will say no and tell you to buy the latest version at a discount; maybe. Hope I am wrong and that you have discovered a way of doing this.
I hope so too. In any case if you have an image or two of your C:\ drive, you don't need that option.
Years ago I did lose my system and had to start from scratch, and stupidly I did not have an image of C:\ or a copy of the original download. I wrote Acronis explaining my situation and enclosing details of purchase of their software (might have been v6), and software key and they let me re-download for free.
Since then I keep an image of C: on a USB drive. If I run into trouble, at least once a year, I restore to factory condition, re-boot from Acronis Boot Disk, then restore the latest image I have from the USB drive. Works for me.
Sounds like a working plan to me and I also use a USB drive that has my Acronis backups; and have used them on occasions. Take a look at my post #66. Have you ever done that which I did with new builds?
If so, do you think that build is the full version? If I need to reinstall one of my backups, I hope to remember to try one of those downloaded builds to see if it is the full version 9 app.
Limerick,
I may have missed this in this long post but, if you are using ghost 2003. The CD/DVD's are bootable!
As I have heard no version after 2003 is bootable.
Only posting because of
And for that reason, it's the only/last version of ghost I'll buy!Quote:
I could boot to a floppy with Ghost on it
Yes, the images can be made boot-able, But I still use the tried and friendly Ghost floppy.
2003 works fine for me.
Hi buf,
Latest v9 I had was 9.0.3.3677. My recently installed version is 10.0.4871. This was a purchased upgrade. The "build" upgrades within version are free. Like you I save all the builds on CDs.
Restoration does not have to be carried on within the same build.n fact once I had a problem restoring, and Acronis advised me to install the latest build and the problem disappeared.
Thanks for those good words. I thought a build could completelty install Acronis. Well, I hoped that was the case.
I just got the Trial, thanks for the tips guys, i'm gonna have a play and see how things work, i also snagged the huge PDF user guide so i can have a read too. :)
I always thought a clean install wasn't too strenuous, and looking at the way Acronis works i'm saving myself a good 2 hours work, so i'm a happy chappy.

reat news Liam. Now have some fun with that software and I hope you like it.
("Thought" I just posted the above but it did not show as a post.)
Quick n00b question, you create a full backup image, and it is a .tib file, and when you boot with the Acronis disc to reload an image on a fresh hard drive can you remove the disc that you are booting from and load the image from another disc (DVD-R0 if that makes sense, as i just did a clean install to make an image of a fresh activated XP with all the updates, which would save me a heck of a lot of time with all the rebooting etc, so if i burn this .tib file to a DVD, when i boot with the acronis disc, do i remove the disc once i get to the restore screen and put the DVD in the drive, and then load the image? It sounds simple enough in my head, i just want to make sure i haven't missed anything.:) TIA.
Liam
Liam, if I remember correctly, you leave the Acronis boot CD in the drive and go through the steps to restore. The software boot disk takes over after you have identified the restore tib file(s) you want to restore.
Congratulations on your progress thus far and I assume you have validated your backup CD(s) and you know you have a good burn.
Thankfully, I haven't had to restore lately and so I am rusty on the steps to restore. Good luck.
Thanks buf, i actually meant that if it was a clean drive, and i put in the acronis boot CD, and the image was on a DVD, how do i point the program to the image, if i remove the CD will the program stop, etc.
Liam
In the restore process you will be asked to "identify" in the tree which tib file(s) you wish to restore. You may have to click on the drop down to reveal the tib file you want to restore. Golly but just trying to remember without actually doing the restore isn't easy for me. I don't recall the necessity of inserting your DVD backup CD as the backup is on your hard drive. Hope this makes some sense. Try to find some screen shots for this step. I will search my files for any I may have and post them, if I do.
