Actually, I was referring to your anti-virus. Personally I use Kaspersky and like I said in a post earlier, you can add it as a trusted file. I'm afraid I haven't touched a Norton product in years.
For anyone using the latest version of Kaspersky you can just click on the "add to trusted zone" (or something to that extent) when the balloon pops up or
1. Click on settings
2. Click on protection in the left menu
3. Click the Trusted Zone button
4. Click add and a new window called Exclusion Mask pops up
5. Click the specify link
6. Click browse and locate gameguard.des in your maple story install directory
7. Click OK, OK, OK
Just a warning. You're telling Kaspersky to completely exclude this file from all it's little activities and all you're doing is opening up a potential security hole. But at least Kaspersky won't moan anymore.
With regards to Norton, I'd assume (this is off the top of my head so the steps might not be that accurate) you'd open NAV (get to it's options window) and either under auto-protect or manual scan there should be an exclusion option. From there I'd assume it's the same by locating gameguard.des and clicking ok. I'm sorry I can't be anymore clear.
Now with regards to zone alarm, I suppose as long as maplestory.exe has permissions to access the network/internet etc. you're ok. And yes, the remember option is correct. (again I'm sorry I can't be more clear about zone alarm, I use kerio .. yes I know that can be disabled rather easily once something malicious actually gets onto my computer)
But nothing is more safe than practicing good computing habits. That or putting your computer back in the box and sending it back to the manufacturer. With computers, I find nothing is ever 100% hehehe

EDIT: Everything appears to be fixed now. I guess nProtect and Wizet were aware of the problem all along.
My problem does appear to be resolved (thank god) after the new GG patch. I did receive a reply email from NProtect, from a tech who appears to have a poor grasp of the English language (surprise, surprise).
Obviously my use of the words "MapleStory", direct quotes from the BSOD, and a detailed explanation of exactly what was happening was not enough detail for them. I hope and pray that I'll never have reason to contact them again. :rolleyes:Quote:

Thanks for posting the solution(s) guys, it should help others with this problem, although that responsibility should be on NProtect, but as it has already gathered you all together, i'm sure reading it here would be easier than translating a response from a tech.:rolleyes::D

Hello everyone. I greatly apologize if bringing up an old topic is considered bad form here, but I need some help that directly relates to this topic.
I've done the following, as suggested by this topic:
- updated my video drivers (integrated video card in an HP pavillion ze2000)
- downloaded the newest version of Maple Story (multiple times...)
- thoroughly erased Norton/Symantec
- tried disabling my firewall (Zonealarm Pro) and also tried allowing the game to do all it needed to
- deleted and re-downloaded the C:/Program Files/Wizet/Maple Story/GameGuard folder
Now, some things of note that might be of interest are:
- My BSOD comes up before Maple Story starts, just after the nProtect progress bar dissappears. Zonealarm also asks me to give MapleStory.exe permission before the BSOD.
- My BSOD error is slightly different. I get a stop error, but there's no mention at all of a "dump_wmimmc.sys" file. It simply states the stop error, then does a "dump of my physical memory" and suggests talking to my computer administrator. I can take a picture if necessary.
- I downloaded the game Gunbound (which also uses nProtect) just today, so it's definately up to date, and the exact same problem happens at the exact time in the exact same way.
- A couple months ago, I played Maple Story all the time, but I had to reformat my harddrive and since I tried re-installing (very recently), the BSODs occur.
- I'm running Windows XP SP2 on an HP Pavillion ze2000 laptop.
- I downloaded and installed Maple Story just fine on a separate computer (a desktop) with absolutely no problems at all.
I'm hoping you guys can help me out, as you seem to be very good at this stuff. Again, if this is bad form, could someone please advise me on a better course of action? Thanks a lot.
