Thanks goose https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Looks like I got taken a little. However I didn't have to wait for delivery anyway...hehe
As long as it works, I'll be happy. We'll see tomorrow. Just might have bought some extra life for this machine. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Good morning. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I just installed the TNT2 card. I followed the instructions provided in the manual and the install failed miserably. I tried it several times and it still failed. I decided to get creative and install the drivers and such on my own. After a little fighting, I think it is running OK. I Hope!!!
Now for the questions... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Under the controlpanel/display/settings/advanced I now have a whole bunch of areas for settings and tweaks for this card. Right now I have not changed any of them. Should I tinker or leave well enough alone?
Also, in device manager, the TNT2 card shows up in place of the ATI rage Pro(previous card) under display adaptors and appears to have no problems. However, further down on the list is something called "other devices" that has a big yellow question mark as it's icon. When this is expanded there is "PCI VGA-Compatable Display Adaptor". This gizmo is showing a yellow splat(!) Everything is working OK, though. Any ideas on what to do about the splat? Ignore it? Thanks.
BTW, MYST 3 now can run in Direct3D mode, which it couldn't before.

greengoose, i'll tell ya man, I am in very bad shape today. I was looking for this thread and couldn't find it. I hit the post new topic key and wrote a message to YOU, asking what happened to the Delta thread. When it sent me back, I found out I was in the Win/95 forum not the Hardware forum. Damn I feel like an idiot now. So I deleted my Post to you....
THought you all could use a good laugh this morning.......

Working on indexing the Delta threads using what was posted in part one of this thread. Back to work - Be well.

Was gone all day yesterday...went to a Virginia plantation and watch border collie/sheepdog competitions....fascinating.
(Just like on the movie Babe).
So....I didn't get to pick up a copy of Myst (I missed Myst?). Looking forward to it.
Maxx: Not sure why it's doing what it's doing in Device Manager, but you might try going to the Properties under that splat entry, Update Driver, then point it to the card entry under Display Adaptor. Might solve the problem.

Doctor...Doctor...Help me!!!
Don't know how long I'll be online here. Got some problems. I'll try to explain.
I already told you about installing the card and the splat in device manager. Well I didn't do anything about it at that point. I left the computer for awhile and came back. The screen was black except for a blinking (_) in the upper left corner. No matter what I did I could not get a display back. At this time I noticed a blinking light on the monitor that never blinked before. I then had to do a hard shutdown. When I tried to restart, I still got no display even though the normal sound of bootup, including a wave file I have for windows, did occur. With a black screen again (and still a blinking light on the monitor, another hard shutdown. I did another restart. This time I had a blank screen through the boot-up until my wallaper appeared. Then I got my desktop. I didn't get the Emachine splash nor the Windows 98 splash nor any of the other stuff on the screen that I see on bootup. At this point I decided to go back to the original configuration with the on-board ATI. I removed the TNT2 card from device manager and the card from the tower. Then I restarted.
Here's what I have now. The machine reloaded the ATI stuff and all appears normal for it. No splats and device manager says it is working properly. However, I still don't get the Emachine splash nor the windows splash nor any of the other DOS-looking stuff. The screen stays black until my wallpaper shows up, then the desktop. AND I still have that stupid blinking thing on the monitor.
I know it's a mess. Got any ideas??? Right now I would be happy to get back to where I was before the TNT2 card was installed. That is a normal screen during bootup and no more blinking light on the monitor. Thanks.

In the device manger for monitor it says "default monitor" The device is working properly. Also "exists in all hardware profiles" is checked.
BTW, I tried to update the driver in this area and it said I was already using the most recent. I also tried the "install new hardware" thingy in control panel. It did say it had found a plug N play moniotr and claimed to install the needed software. Still not back to where it was, though. No bootup screens and still blinking. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Does you recovery/restore disk have the option to restore without formatting ??
Browse the cd or floppy that came with that card, I have a idea you did not install everything that you should have.
