Talking about the preview pane in OE? Look under View>Layout. Can turn it off or on there....

Good Evening,
I tried there too, bistro. Had forgotten it was there until I saw your message. But it still wouldn't close.
I just finished installing 5.01 and sp1
The preview pane was closed when I opened Outlook Express the first time. So something must have been wrong with it originally. It's fixed now. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Train,
The shutdown patch I did last night must have taken too because fast shutdown is not in msconfig.
QOH
Why do we always learn after the fact. ???
Yes, that takes effect immediately. So, I use the other way first. Just gives me a option incase of further problems.

Well, so far I haven't had a problem shutting down. Just know it OLD used to, before I knew better then to leave stuff running. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
This one shuts down and comes right back up before I even blink and it's ready to go again. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I tried to get rid of that Zone Alarm splash with Whitphils nosplash addition but it's still popping up there. I'm working on it.

I've been rereading again, looking for link for those 3D screensavers bistro. I cannot find it. Can you post that again. I saved it on OLD.
Also I found this ...I was supposed to remind you about later :
Under System.ini>[vcache]: MinFileCache=0,
MaxFileCache=3072
Swap File: (mine is on a slave drive identical to the primary and on a different channel)-- set a permanent swap file of 200mb (min and max). Determined this number through the Swapmon program, running 3DMark2000 benchmark and demo consecutively. Then ran Bryce 3D and having it render 4 or 5 complex scenes. Swapmon came up with a suggested perm. swap file of 152, which I rounded up to the next 50mb.
This system config appears to be the best so far--ran several benchmarks with this and all coming up with almost identical high scores. Just a suggestion for ya'll AFTER getting the new system working properly and all your programs loaded on it.
woke up early so Good morning.
QOH
Normally, when you add vcache it will slow 98 down. But, it does work on a few for some reason. And with the new ram I have it does!
this is for 128MB's ram.
[vcache]
MinFileCache=32768
MaxFileCache=32768
; ChunkSize=512
Chunksize is skipped because of the ; .
If it slows you down, simply remove it.
start > run [type in] system.ini > OK
scroll down to [vcache] and paste in this
MinFileCache=32768
MaxFileCache=32768
; ChunkSize=512
and it look like above. Reboot and check it out.
I believe this is what bistro was refering to. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Morning https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Got 256MB now https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I am looking at this system.ini. It came up in notepad with a bunch of dll and exe stuff...so I erased everything and put that line in.
Gotta get to work.
PSYC ! I be owin' ya that one, bistro https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Think we we need to do a fly in so we can play too, QoH, all of us! We'd have Bistro on the keyboard, Train on drums, with you singing the Computer Lullaby (currently being written), Mosaic turning the pages and taking care of the register, the rest off those who have had something to say in the choir and me taking care of the punch bowl. LOL https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ HEHE

Probably made him waste one of his Digoxin. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I think that's a great idea greengoose. We ought to have a live meeting somewhere.
Don't forget to take your own pic bistro if you get ahold of that digital camera today.
I'm thinking about asking my X Brother in law to borrow his so I can take some pictures of this new machine. He's a shift worker so he's hard to catch.
QoH: Delete that sys.ini file and you're dead.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Looking over those 3D screensavers at the site--have tried most of them. Some are good, some not so good. A lot of these are experiments done and submitted. I'd say of the lot of them, the one included on the CD and HERE are the best.
Here's the homepage.
Most of the screensavers are shareware, but interesting to try out . That aquarium one is pretty realistic--the best "aquarium" one I've seen--just have to fill in the words they say to fill in, then enjoy.
We may need to start considering a backup system for you. Nothing like going through all that installing, only for it to crash on you. There are a few ways. Some folks like GoBack---pros: Can restore your entire system back to what it was 5, 10, 15 minutes ago (or even a few days) very quickly on bootup. Cons: Takes up hard drive space for the "image" and sometimes starts writing to the hd at inopportune times; has a compatibility problem with Norton (patch available). Another method is to use Partition Magic or Ranish and make a second partition--perhaps around 5 or 6 gb. Then use Norton Ghost and make an image of C: on that. Pro: Very accurate--can make a "baseline" of a working system to avoid reinstalling everything. Con: One time shot--doesn't keep a running tab of all subsequent changes/additions on the system. Another way to use Ghost is to have a second hard drive and put the Ghost image on that one.
Another little speed-up/performance tip would be to put a second partition on the hard drive--around 1gb---and put your swap file on that (nothing else), then hide the partition with TweakUI. Just for consideration; not a "command" or an "absolute". https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
