https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ I remember when I installed SB Live! the first time...inadvertently had the speakers on almost full blast. When Windows came up and that thunderclap came on, I fell out of my chair...you oughta hear it w/ 4 speaker (and subwoofer). Yikes!!!
You can copy those WAV files on the CD over to Windows\Media folder. Try the THX Sound for a Windows Start. Not bad.

Back again. I saw a flash in the sky earlier today and knew who caused it https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Scandisk came to the rescue again.

Speed demon is right Train! This is unreal !
It shocked me when I first heard the thunder too. I don't think I set it for that while checking it out earlier before I had sounds.
Oh.. that cyclone fan is tight in that space between the Video card and the sound card. It's not touching, though. Is that ok ? I skipped a slot like you said for the sound card and put the cyclone in that PCI slot space blowing on the Video Card.
I have done the tweakui tweaks.
One thing I am not going to be able to handle. I have tried four times to tell it to stop, is the modem screaming at me. I turned it's sound completely off in the Control panel under Modem. Is there something else that controls the racket ?
Or should I put the side on the case https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Thanks Train...and bistro inadvertently. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Hi! I'm back...oooooooooo https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Neighbor upstairs was having problems with his modem....got it moving again for him.
is that a US Robotics modem dere, QoH? For that poster's modem, that was the best way. Will probably work on yours too, but here's a tip: If it's a US Robotics, you should have a CD with it--probably the "Connections" Cd. If so, start it. Cancel the registration. Under Software>>Productivity & Utilities, there's a program called 3Com Modem Manager. Install it. It has a Volume Control on it with a "Mute" feature. Elect NOT to have it start on boot. Just bring it up, make the settings, and exit.

Yes it is a Us Robotics 56K PCI Performance Pro.
I didn't have to use the CD it installed all by itself. I defied the instructions. STOP! Do not install this modem bla bla bla.
OK I'll go back and put the CD in. The reason I didn't use it was because it said I had no IRQ something or other available.
How 'bout that Cyclone ? Is that ok so close like that?
OH yeah... one other thing. Ya know the mother board fit perfectly without those studs but when I put those under it the ports were the height of those studs too tall to fit thru the I/O plate. So I took the plate off. Have to get another one.
The cards were just that much too tall too. I used the extra studs to screw in each hole and then screwed holding screw for the cards into that.
Am I going to blow up? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

No, the fan is just fine, as long as it isn't actually touching.
I'm concerned about the mobo. Did you mount it directly onto the dimples, then use ONE screw for each hole? That's how it's done. Don't know, but it sounds like you put a screw into each dimple, then mounted the mobo on them; then put an aditional screw onto that. If that's the case, you need to take everything out and re-do it.
-
No the little copper colored studs under the motherboard like the directions said then the Motherboard then the screw thru the Motherboard into the studs. The studs were male on one end and female on the other. That's the way the Manual said to do it. Maybe they didn't count on the dimples being in the case?
-
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Dot's right....On the mobo plate of most cases, there's just plain screw holes where you have to have a double-set---that S500 is already raised--don't need the bottom screws; just mount the mobo directly on the dimples and use one screw per hole. Put that I/O plate back on (if it matches the mobo config) Sorry for the bad news https://discussions.virtualdr.com/. But you're an expert now, shouldn't take too long to do it. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ No need of course to remove the devices.
Just take your time--go slow when disconnecting all the cables, etc.from the mobo. Better to totally remove the cards first. No need to remove the CPU/fan etc. Remember how they were oriented--might take a Sharpy pen and mark the IDE/ATA cables as to where they go

Bistro - Off Topic - Some how on the internet forum I clicked something and up popped a reference manual of schematic notation. I looked at several pages, saved to favorites, and when clicked on it got the internet forum and not the ref. manual. The address is www.ivex.com. It opened in Acrobat and where is it in my machine, any idea?

That's a computing phenomena. Those rare "saved" files that do nothing but bring you back....back....back in time..... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Actually, you'll find that a lot with sites that display pdf files. Not exactly sure why (maybe a reader here knows), but the pdf is propietary and can only be displayed from the site itself. The "saved" pdf will only take you back to the site to view it and/or you are actually saving the site itself (url), rather than just the file.
Other sites will allow you to actually download the file for later viewing.
