https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Well,I was gonna say !
I have made a bootdisk from the Win 98 CD, never had to use it so I don't really know why except it was suggeested that I do. Will I be able to use that disk on the new system ? I'm worried about when it comes time to fire it up. Even tho there is nothing there....will there even be like the part where I had to reset the clock ? BIOS?
Where does that part come from ? Did Compaq put that part on there?
It's ok.... you can roll your eyes, bistro. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

OK... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
You'll need that disk to fdisk and format your new hard drive. The bootdisk is also good for when having trouble with Windows.
The bootdisk mentioned earlier does all that and the following:
Fast Boot
Computer Info
Virus Scan
Fix Registry
Scan Drive for Errors
Prepare drive
Install Windows
Find Files
Documentation
More Tools
Under More Tools:
Troubleshooter
Y2K Test
Save BIOS
Partition Drive
Clone Drive
View Memory Type
Memory Status
Drive Medic
Get CAB Files
Think that's enough for one floppy? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Haven't used all the utilities available yet.
It's in DOS of course, so you simply scroll down the choices and hit Enter.
EDIT: Oops. Sorry about the list--corrected now. My radical new way to type isn't working on this format.

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Now, that's better.
Oh ! I see Save BIOS ! Does that mean it's going to sneak the one off this computer and then put it on the new one? What if it's all ...old and beat up ?
And CAB files .....what if I deleted those to make more room ? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Train: It's the 6th one down on that site.
Mosaic1: Not sure if that's the same one, but they're both called "The Ultimate Boot Disk".
-
It checked out, kind of nice watching all that stuff go into the floppy. The others booted up as non system disks, remove and etc..
Now,I probably be able to change this drive out and not lose anything. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

QOH: No. it just saves a copy of your current BIOS--you won't need that for your new mobo. As far as your CAB files, well...that utility just won't find them... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
But they'll be there on your new hd/system. I'd recommend that you use the Windows 98 bootdisk to fdisk/format your new drive, rather than the Ultimate bootdisk. Play it straight for now; then you can play with that disk later..

Referring to the www.bootdisk.com site
It's the 95/98/ME file.

OK I'll make a fresh one like you suggested earlier, even tho I have never used the other one. Been a few months and the kids may have gum on it or something....who knows?
I'll still get me one of those Ultimate ones too.... for later.
You're prepared Mosaic! Now you'll probably never need it... Let's hope.
hmmmmm where's greengoose ? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

That sounds like it. Check it out by booting up with it--if there's a DOS splash screen (Utlimate Boot Disk) and has a clone drive feature (under More Tools)--that's the one.
Well, Nite all--this sinus medication is getting to me https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Morning All, I posted new virus alert on 98 from my son. Heard or know anything about it?
Had a couple of things come up requiring my attention and time. I've had just enough time to follow you all and that's about it.
Want to order my S500. Directcon or Allstar? Or has a better place popped up and at the stage we are right now should any other bits and pieces be ordered. Have a great day. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
