I agree with what she is saying and suggesting entirely. Having played Maplestory for awhile now I get frustrated myself with Wizet's lack of support to their players. There are far too many hackers and other rule breakers running around compared to their other versions of the game, like Japanese Maplestory, Korean Maplestory, MapleSEA, etc etc, and it is definitely about time that this changes and Wizet starts putting a bit more effort into maintaining the game, not only against rule breakers with no intention of playing the game correctly, but preventing wide scale computer problems like this one.Quote:

In response to Grey I don't think you should be too worried unless you were in the middle of flashing firmware or writing and essay or something. It's just like how some people think that formatting your system over and over is a bad thing. Which I suppose it is. Just like defragging your system could be potentially harmful to your hard drives. The point is, hardware is generally made to withstand the rigors of regular use; crashes and all. Hehe again, I think many people have different opinions and depending on your beliefs, it could be construed as bad. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Akio: Are you running XP? Also are you seeing the ad when you quit?
I think you are experiencing 2 different problems which seem like one.
I just had it tested on Win2K running SP4 with the new patches and nothing went wrong.

And yes, I always get a BSOD when I try to start Maple Story, or whenever I close Gunbound.
The odd thing is, I used to play Maple Story and Gunbound on this laptop just fine a few weeks ago. There was no problem whatsoever. The problems started when I formatted my hard disk and reinstalled my OS. I downloaded Maple Story again, and patched it, but then I got the BSOD. For the first time. I looked for the file: dump_wmimmc.sys, but it doesn't exist.
I already installed the newest drivers for my computer. So I'm starting to think it might not be a driver issue. The whole nProtect thing sounds quite reasonable. Yet, I don't understand how Maple Story worked for me before the formatting, and doesn't work now. :(
Okay so after reading all of this it's pretty much been determined that:
1. This is not a driver issue, so the Windows BSOD error message is invalid.
2. It is not an antivirus error; your antivirus software does not need to be uninstalled.
3. Uninstalling/reinstalling will not help.
4. nProtect is clearly not accepting emails. (So I reccomend spam mailing Wizet, heh.)
5. Video cards are not the problem.
6. Maplestory itself is not the problem. (If it falters with Gunbound, too.)
Is everyone who is getting this error running XP sp2?
I still maintain this is suspiciously an SP2 + GameGuard problem. I've just tried it out on XP and XP with SP1 again and I've had no crashing and/or disconnection problems whatsoever. Oh and those machines aren't updated to the latest video drivers either. Each using old catalyst and forceware drivers. Out of everyone experiencing this problem, how many of you actually have SP2 installed? I know Xen mentioned he's on SP1. All I'm doing is trying to root out the obvious and maybe narrow it down further.
Forgive my ignorance, but does anyone know if the driver tool is still part of the resource kit? I swear it used to be there...

You can also add that crashes occurs with Lineage 2 (another game protected by GG)
All my friends who have Gunbound also experience the same problem when they close the game. So I guess nProtect is responsible here. I know I'm not gonna be playing it until they fix this issue.

No I'm not disputing that it never worked before. I've experienced other problems when GG was on version 69x (in game terms, when the sleepy problem started happening). The BSODs just started happening after 71x. And yes, this game was working fine prior to that. If you've read my post a few pages back, I've explained what GG is doing .. albeit in somewhat lay terms.. heheQuote:

I've been following this thread since yesterday. I, too, was having problems with Maple Story always crashing on me with that stop error after it was shut down.
Wizet and INCA have solved this issue.
After recent GameGuard update yesterday at 5:20 am EDT (9:20 am GMT Wednesday, June 28th 2006), several users have been experiencing sudden shut down after closing MapleStory client. As of now, GameGuard issue has been patched and it is now safe to run MapleStory client.

They may be wrong about when this started (it'd been happening to me since the 6/25), but I tested it out immediately. GG downloaded a new file, and I was able to close MS and haven't had the error since.
Interesting... Unfortunately, my rebooting problem doesn't occur only after closing Maple Story. I randomly receive error 230 from GameGuard and a few seconds after that I am presented with a reboot. When (if) Wizet puts the manual patch on their site I will attempt to update Maple Story that way and post my results with GameGuard. As far as I can tell GameGuard is completely updated. When I start Maple Story the GameGuard window opens fine and updates as well as connects without any problems. Once I get into the game, however, it's a completely different story.Quote:

Xen: The 230 Initialization error usually occurs when gg sees a process it doesn't like. As I mentioned in a previous post regarding gg, gg will initiate a reboot from bypass/hack attempts. It's a possibility that Norton is protecting your kernel (a good thing hehe) but here it's not conducive to a good maple experience. You might want to try (if there is an option for it) to make gameguard.des a trusted file (if you have the rights to change those settings). From what I see from my process manager (I could be wrong here), maplestory.exe in your install directory isn't the actual game file. The real maplestory.exe is generated and hidden.

I have full administrator rights to my machine, Unbalanced. Would you mind elaborating on how I might go about granting trusted rights to the files with Norton? Also, as far as adding them to Zone Alarm goes, I don't have any problems with the game connecting to the internet. However, if I am correct in assuming that the GameGuard application is GameGuard.des, how might I go about adding that to Zone Alarm's trusted zone (if you know)? If the trusted zone you are referring to is whether or not the program is allowed to access the internet, then it can be added by allowing it access and selecting the remember option on the dialogue box, right?
Maybe there is hope after all.
