Nice poem, Nick Grana!
It brought tears in my eyes, thinking about our soldiers fighting in the Middle East.
I was a soldier, too. What you just said was true.

Light saber packed onto the sleigh. Carrots for the reindeer would be very nice. A glass of lemonade would make a nice change from the wine.Quote:

Thank your son for me because when I visit your home he'll be fast asleep, I hope.

Phew! what a day I've had loading the sleigh, I'm absolutely tired.
Computers seem to very popular this year and the boxes take up a lot of room.
I hope people don't mind but I've slipped a little note into each computer box, it reads as follows:
'If your computer should ever go wrong,
getting it fixed won't take long.

Clever mom that I am, I tripped the string and you should have seen how wide his eyes got when he saw it. He almost caught Santa Claus!! But he was kicking himself for not hearing the "noise" and waking up to catch the old gent in action.

Santa, do you get upset at those that impersonate you? Some times is the Christmas department at Wal-Mart I'll find a Santa suit one can buy. Who's buying those suits, is it you or people that are impersonating you, and is it a crime to impersonate Santa Claus? I used to believe in you, just like I believed in the Easter Bunny. Can you prove to me that you are who you say you are and restore my faith back in you that I once had. Thanks and I know that if you are who you say you are, you can do what I'm asking. Thanks again.
I don't buy any suits Mrs Santa makes them for me.
It's not a crime to impersonate me.
Yes, Fuelm@n, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and friendship exists. The world would be a dreary place without Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if Fuelm@n didn't exist.
Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that doesn't mean he doesn't exist. The most real things in the world are those that nobody can see.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year To All On VrD,
Thanks for all your help over the years and your friendship! I look forward to many more years here on the forum. I went to high school and college with the author of this poem, James Tate, whose father he writes about. Enjoy!
The Lost Pilot
by James Tate
for my father, 1922-1944
Your face did not rot
like the others--the co-pilot,
for example, I saw him
yesterday. His face is corn-
mush: his wife and daughter,
the poor ignorant people, stare
as if he will compose soon.
He was more wronged than Job.
But your face did not rot
like the others--it grew dark,
and hard like ebony;
the features progressed in their
distinction. If I could cajole
you to come back for an evening,
down from your compulsive
orbiting, I would touch you,
read your face as Dallas,
your hoodlum gunner, now,
with the blistered eyes, reads
his braille editions. I would
touch your face as a disinterested
scholar touches an original page.
However frightening, I would
discover you, and I would not
turn you in; I would not make
you face your wife, or Dallas,
or the co-pilot, Jim. You
could return to your crazy
orbiting, and I would not try
to fully understand what
it means to you. All I know
is this: when I see you,
as I have seen you at least
once every year of my life,
spin across the wilds of the sky
like a tiny, African god,
I feel dead. I feel as if I were
the residue of a stranger's life,
that I should pursue you.
My head cocked toward the sky,
I cannot get off the ground,
and, you, passing over again,
fast, perfect, and unwilling
to tell me that you are doing
well, or that it was mistake
that placed you in that world,
and me in this; or that misfortune
placed these worlds in us.
Very profound Santa - thanks for packing the light saber ;)Quote:

P.S. Santa, you've only been a member for a few days, but you've probably got more posts up already than the majority of members (ie the 1 post wonders).
Well done.

Sheesh!!! I wish half the people in here would calm down? I dont wish for much myself. I have 8 children in which I hope that they can grow old one day and experience life as thoroughly as possible, and enjoy it to the fullest extent that they are capable of. I dont feel that is too much to ask.
I once had a friend that his only job ever was working at a gas station...yayyy most of you may say. He went on to have a wife and 2 kids, yet still never made much money even though he was at that job for 9 years. He was always thankful for his wife and healthy children and never complained about the job he had, as he was thankful for his job as well. Half the time he couldn't tell you the difference between a needle and a haystack and therefore never had a chance in hell at finding it, or for that matter, a life or a better job. His wife never complained, because this man was a very good man. they led a very meager life, sometimes struggled and I'm sure it was very rough at times.
2 weeks ago my friend lost his job and somehow in the process forgot about all these things. He became bitter and cold towards everyone. Even his wife and children. He died 1 day ago due to a gunshot wound to the head. This was not self inflicted. He just got fed up with a neighbor and went over to give him a piece of his mind. He just never expected to have a 45 jammed in his face.
I was there when he died, and even though he knew he was going to die he was still thankful for the experiences he had in life, his angels (children) and the woman who bore him, who could not be there herself either. He was also very apologetic because of his actions prior to the shooting. Toward both his wife and children.
This man was 27 years old
Be thanful for what you have....and be more thankful for what you don't.
It could always be a tragedy in the end
Love ya Brian and God bless
P.S. 31 myself and all mine are healthy. again that is what I'm thankful for, and if you did take the time to read this. You know what I want , This and every christmas.
Ross Elliot P.
Well as moving and sombering as that tale is.
Maybe it says something about gun laws when giving your neighbour a piece of you rmind ends up with you getting shot dead.
However in the spirit of the thread we don't want to get into gun law arguments.
Peace to everyone and my thoughts are with Brian's family and to all those people who's live's he touched.
