yeah it was, That's why I took it out, but since I edited that out, so it doesn't matter now anyway. :D
Thanks, Ridge.
Ridge got it first.
I've just started my first build...have already overcome several "problems" mainly my not understanding how things are meant to work( verticle HD, MB standoffs, umpteen wire sets from PS, etc). I have another thread in this forum which will explain why I suggested VD bring back the DELTA projects.
Did anyone tell Photolady that the only way to become a Delta Crew member was to post on a Delta Thread. Or the others that have posted. That means enjoying all the rights and priveleges of same. Now where did that list go? Hmmm.
What we have alluded to tonight are things that came before in this cyberworld of ours. And this thread is the culmination of all that has been done up to now you could say. The subject we are on is one immense subject. We have talked about parts of it in the past, but this is the first time we have attempted to tie it together in this manner. We are going one step at a time to try and keep it halfway in a coherent form without going to far astray.
The challenge is when you are in one area of thought, that you are oriented as far as the big picture goes and know how all the parts are interrelated and NOT a bunch of separate confusing parts.
As Jackie Chan said (and Falcon2000 under his avitar)
That way we will all flow together to make a river rather than a whole bunch of little drips.Quote:
Be Like Water
Yeah Yeah I know - who you calling a little drip. :D
HI arty62, I suggest starting a build thread at the point you are at and you will be helped on your build. Your only responsibility is to ask questions when you need to.
You might start by posting your specs and at what point you are at and then a question or questions after that. :)
Hello all!
I've got absolutely nothing to add, that hasn't already been said, much more eloquently than I could hope to anyhow. :p
But, I'm just thrilled to pieces to see the Delta threads resurrected. And all these familiar faces. Good times....... good times.
Daizy
Hi Nix,
Or better yet - flow with the stream.
If their are enough drips a mighty river forms - :D :D Like it I do.
The point I am trying to make is to take this one step at a time, ask questions, plan your action and then implement. What has not been said is how each computer on the net is coming under increasing pressure good and bad. And each one of us can contend with what is out there and our computing experience will be enjoyable when we take a little time with oyr computers. :)
He sort of has go here
Daizy,
Great you are here. The Delta Crew is arising once again to the call. Kinda nice to see it too. :):)
I see that Nix, thanks. :)
Howdy ya'll... and good to see the Delta Threads back again :)
Security: A Firewall and Anti-Virus, it's kept up to date and running all the time (except when Gaming (Gaming PC is behind a ICS Gateway)).
OS Backup and Maintenance: Just my most recent Ghost Image... and a small 'Ram-Disk' for 'TIF's, History & Cookies' (when I reboot the contents of Ram-Disk are gone).
All i have on my C: Drive is my OS and small app installs, so it's small and all completely disposable for me (all my other data is on other partitions like others have mentioned)... so rather than having a heavy cleanup/maintenance schedule i can avoid it completely and just dump the OS and junk by restoring my recent image......
I only create another 'up to date' Ghost Image when i have enough useful programs to install to make it worthwhile... when i want to 'update' my image i always restore the recent one 1st then install new programs, tweak stuff and then make another NEW Ghost image for use next time i need a restore... this way my OS never ages or picks up unwanted clutter... and one maintenance plan (restoring my Ghost Image) is all that's needed for me to do whenever it needs it, a restored Ghost Image is also fully unfragmented too saving another job...
By having a Healthy Ghost image to restore to which has no junk programs, no clutter, no usage history, no spyware/addware or other forms of Temp files, but it has everything I need installed, there is no need for all these different kinds of maintenance/???ware removal etc... just a couple of Min's to restore my Ghost Image of Drive C: and i've always got a perfect OS.
That's my way, but like i said, everything on my C: is disposable, it's the way i like it...
All my other Data is on other partitions spread throughout my Drives, for data backup i categorize everything in folders and burn them to CD when they are 700MB worth, any important stuff i personally create or modify i keep another copy of on another drive and update it when i make changes... but my download folders arn't so important, so all i do there is catalog what's on the disk, that way if i do lose it at least i know what i've lost so i can d'load it again...
Another thing i've been experimenting with recently is XPlite, it's not exactly maintenance as such, but it sure gets rid of a lot of junk from XP and makes backups smaller, if u want ~500MB install size of XP for gaming or something then it's a real neat program (but, it's probably nothing that can't be done manually for the hardcore tweaker's).
Regards :)
Guess not, I haven't heard a peep about this. ;)Quote:

Anyway, I do almost all of what peeps have posted in here. scandisk about every three days, defrag once a week, "backup" nothing to backup on this 1.5gb hdd. I keep it streamlined. :D
I do scandisk in DOS, in my opinion, DOS does a better job. I still haven't figured out why defrag works better in safe mode than windows, but that is where I run it.
I also use Spybot Search & Destroy after a few days hard internet activity. And I use Norton Antivirus once a week, then Housecall about once every two weeks. I use cookie jar to contain those silly things. :D
Guess I'd better say hello....haven't got time to read it all yet.. :D
