I think xcopy from a dos prompt (true DOS like when you boot from floppy) won't do a good clone.
but, hang on.
I will try something on the other machine.

Don't forget Jaak, this ultra card is not a raid card. There's no configuration screen for it. To boot off it you can either a) set boot from scsi in system bios setup or, b) disable (or not have) any hard drives on the mainboard controllers.
But booting from a drive on this card aside, in GG1's case the card is seen but no drive is seen on it (when attached).

GG1,
Some tests to try (some are repeat for which an answer hasn't been given yet):
1) Drive as single-master on 2nd controller of card
2) Use of 40-pin/40-wire (regular) ide cable
3) Drive set up as cable select (appropriate jumper set, drive on end of cable, ata100 cable used).
4) Drive set as single-master and placed on middle cable connector (of ata100 cable).

Sorry for the delay getting back. Company is here. OK now -
Jaak, Don't get desparate, I can only go so fast with the interruptions I've had. I am going to check every suggestion out you all come up with. I am asinterested in finding the workaround to this 32GB Barrrier as any of you are.
DrMDJ, I'll try your suggestions too. I have extra cables also. When BT is built we can test and know for sure whether the card might be bad although my opinion is that it is alright.
I am going to start a new thread now before we run into problems so hold your posts for a few minutes if you will. Thanks

train,
true DOS
xcopy
and
xcopy32 ... cannot do a clone
just what I expected, the long filenames get messed up.
(btw, xcopy32.mod gotta be present on the floppy for them to work, and it was)
now, xcopy32 /c /h /e /k /y /r /i is said to clone when it runs from windows.
it might do a proper one, but I would first do the following to get some obstacles out of the way...
select to NOT use virtual memory
delete all tmp and chk files
reboot to safe mode
start >> run >>
xcopy32 C:\*.* D:\ /c /h /e /k /y /r /i
then get to a dosprompt
sys D:
reboot to true DOS
fdisk /status
fdisk
y
4 (show partition info)
esc
5 (5 = choose the drive you want to boot from. normally that's number 2)
4 (show partition data)
esc
normally, drive one was active.
while you are on drive two,
select option
2 (to choose active partition on drive two)
choose the partition
(you will get error six, most like. ignore it.)
esc
esc
reboot from floppy
fdisk /status
fdisk
y
4 (look if it still shows an A)
esc
5
2
4
esc
esc
if drive two is active, and one isn't, you can try to boot from the newer drive
boot from hard disk
now,
imho, drive manufactor tools (free)
and ghost often free with mobo) works better.
you see, I have my doubts about copying active files.
DLL files can change in size while running.
(hence safe mode, to run with the lowest possible number of programs and drivers.)
about ghost, (and manufactor tools as well)
I would choose partition to partition so as not to get wrong partition info table over
there is a DOStool called xxcopy, which is supposed to do the job.
I'd still use a true cloning util.
GG1
no ctrl + H?
huh?
I need get my hands on a NON raid highpoint controller. I wanna see this.
