Maybe a little extra care in following BIOS instructions that come with the mobo?? Other than posssibly that, I have not found any difference to sway me one way or the other except $$$. But my Duron 800 seems to run about 7 C warmer than a 866 intel. But, if I wanted to oc it , A duron will oc higher. Just I can not see any differences myself. May need new bifocals or possibly trifocals. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

One last question and I'll let you folks rest. Bistro, earlier you said I should make sure the PS is rated for Athlon in case I go that way. Is that to say if it is rated for the AMD, it will work OK with both AMD and Intel?
What I'm getting at is this. I don't know yet which way to go on processor and board, so I don't want to commit to a case that will only work with one of them and limit my options.

Train,
Thanks for the links. I'll read up ahead of time to smooth things along a little better. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

maxx and the members of the advisory board. I looked at the case in question and wonder about the phrase "sufficient inner space" that dodge posted. Thoughts?
maxx as Bistro said on the high end of components what are you noticeably gaining as opposed to buying stable proven components just behind the cutting edge. I know the Queen of Hearts, bistro, and Train have power and they can also answer why, how, where they have it. If you were to build a similar system to the QoH, you would enjoy the benifits of it in your pocketbook, and performance and you would be able to put it up against the best. And fear not we would be with you every step of the way. (Is that a scary thought or not?) If you have any doubts reread the Ooperation Delta threads and you will see that not one screw, nut, bolt, was installed without intense scrutiny and instruction.

Max, at the first sign of bootup, hit the esc key. That will get into the Bios. On your emachine, go into it and look around. Dont worry about looking around and even checking what settings are in there. Just make sure that when you want to leave just hit the EXIT WITHOUT SAVING CHANGES. Then you will be fine.
I would advise you to go into the emachine and learn how to move around in the bios and what is in there. That way when you start your build, you wont be so worried about doing the setup phase of the hardware....
BTW, the only stupid question is the ones you dont ask. Just my opinion on that one...
Atleast in this Thread you can ask questions and not get treated like you are an idiot.. Thanks Everyone.....

Please remember to let us know if it worked or not...JJ

Max: Sure. AMD-approved ps's will work for both. Even some "regular" power supplies can work for the AMD chips/mobos, but you're tossing the dice going that route. Check HERE for approved power supplies--will have to supply the form factor (ATX) and processor. Whatever way you go, make sure the ps is at least 300 watts. If you go with a full tower and plan to add more devices, go with a 400 watt.
Edit: Now...I have seen a few examples of full towers that the owner put two 300w power supplies in--one on top of the other (with a little modding). Plenty of power connectors to go around https://discussions.virtualdr.com/. Not a bad idea as long as you got good air flow and both are plugged into a good surge protector. Makes the dang thing heavy as all get-out... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Bistro, are you modding before building by chance?

I see Train surfaced.

Bistro,
OK...now I get it.Sorry it took about a page of posts to get it through my thick skull...hehe https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Thank you for information. Here's the plan. I'm going to buy a InWin S500 case with an AMD approved, 300watt PS. Once I have it in my grubby little hands, I'll be looking into the mobo and processor.
Dodge,
Your information is headed for the printer. Thanks. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Like Dodge said, no "idiots" here, just folks who want to know and learn. No such thing as "dumb questions"--ask away. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Gotta get my beauty rest (hey..I can always hope, right??). Nite all!

A dumb question is one you do not ask, because without a answer, it will worry you the rest of life. Think of all the time you will have wasted https://discussions.virtualdr.com/. Fire away and teach us with your questions. Believe me, I learn daily, and do not feel up to pulling the sod over my head yet. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Bed time for me. Nite all.

Morning all, Maxx and Dodge, The teacher always learns more than the student. The smallest question gone unasked can cost a person. I couldn't agree more with Train and Bistro.
Bistro, Haven't forgotten you JAVA stuff.

Thanks for the support, gang. Going case hunting again today and tomorrow if necessary. If this fails, I'll whip out the credit cards and go online shopping. Found this huge yellow page directory in my desk. Turns out there are more shops around than I thought. You guys remember paper and ink, don't ya? I understand they used to use this stuff alot awhile back...hehe https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ See ya later.

Went 'case hunting" awhile back. Was very successful, but the wife put her foot down when I tried to mount it on the wall in the den....
