Buy Berkshire-Hatheway/A (NYSE) if you can ever afford it; its trend has been only up for almost twenty years and has never split. I kick myself I didn't buy 5 shares in 1990 (and pay the penalty on using my 401k) when it was around $8000/share....it's ten times that now. B-H/B does almost as well for about a tenth the price per share.
go back in a time machine and buy shares in Google!!! only slight problem is you may need to rent a time machine ;)
i once did a shares challenge in college where you invested an imaginary £100,000 in real world firms (FTSE100) and finished on about 115,000. so not to great of a return and i won the competition!
all you need is some inside information, that and a way to avoid the authorities ;) .
