No, have a computer here for some doctor type work. a 486 that has about 70 bad clusters on it. Just wanting to maybe transfer [copy] to another hard drive. Just got the 1st one scandisk thorough the second time. Now the disk reads ok. Just having problems getting 3.1 installed again.
Time to go to bed, so night all.

Morning All, QoH, pretty near.
Train, Once you have cleaned up the computer, do you regain the use of what was your "Bad Clusters"? Later https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

No, don't have any program for that and probably not do it then https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
That thing is a learning experience, let me tell you.
Tripods were here before Lucas imported them https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ And you have photo documentation to prove it.

Well...I'm certainly not a master, but you are correct Mosaic1. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
QoH: Yep...that's the fan referred to.
Train: You can get that bootdisk at www.bootdisk.com
Besides being a regular boot disk (with fdisk, format), it has a few other utilities--will boot 95 or 98. One of the utilities is a Clone Drive--simply copies a master to slave drive or vice-versa. Very simple to use as long as both drives are formatted correctly. Used it on my bro'-in-law's computer over the holidays to transfer all his old stuff onto a 10gb--worked great--no glitches.

Good evening all.
Problem solved, the harddisk is a write off.
But still interested in the cloning program. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

harddrive is gone. In dumpster already. So, you can kiss it goodbye. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
New subject:
I would like to learn about that program! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

It's rather straight-forward. Download the program from the site, run it in Windows--it copies all the system files it needs and adds to the disk it's own. Boot with the disk and you'll see the list of options. The clone option just asks you what the source will be (shows you the choices available), then you choose where the destination will be. Hit the button and it starts copying. Then you make the source disk (already fdisked and formatted AND made active I presume) the "master" and fire away.

Everyting on my hard drive would fit on one little disk?
Even the Win 98 part?
-
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ No. It copies only the system files needed for a bootup, plus the utilities. It's just a "souped up" boot disk that's all.
