Evening All,
In my life time there have now been two days "of infamy". The first one as a very young boy who did not realize what our President was saying. And today, an incredibly far greater second one in terms of losses.
It is not my intention to start posts on this subject on this thread but to draw your attention to the 98 Forum where the administraters have let us post. If you haven't read it please do and post a thought if you wish. It helped uplift me by reading that thread that johnking started to realize by the posts from all over the world that we are not alone and others outside of this country have the same ideals as we do. Thank you.

Well, bought Maxtor ATA100 PCI Adapter card and Maxtor 30GB 7200 rpm harddrive. To late to start today. Sew, hopefully before Saturday morning it will all be in the Compaq and running. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I mean, get a thirty, clone to thirty, remove forty,
run programs until satisfied the thirty acts well with the cloned data.
and only use wipe0ut on the forty when it is to be used in new monstermachine at a later date

I'm probably a couple days late on this, but...
My girlfriend's folks have an Aptiva 433MHz Celeron. Their excuse for buying it is that they needed one ASAP and didn't have time to shop. Reality = they don't know a darn thing about computers. It has crapped out a couple of times, and her dad won't let me fix it. He just uses the ridiculous recovery disk every time! Same software problem 3 times now, and still won't let me put on Win98SE w/o all the IBM crap.
I also can't talk him out of AOL. A-frickin'-OL!!! He's afraid to change anything and would rather stick with slooooow, buggy crap than fix it up. I can't argue with him well because he speaks mainly Arabic and many of my points are lost on him.
It's very frustrating.

Jaak, I bought two 40Gb WD drives. One is going into BT. So, i need to go back and read your posts on this subject. Thanks for the heads up on the jumper.
The Case has been ordered, an In Win S500 mid size ATX.
Gathering everything up at the moment.
Bistro, can't email you, so I have to say I was sad to hear about your friends.
Repair job still holding up.

I was thinking about 8 giga of wasted space...
I also have this funny feeling that creating an overlay on COMPAQ with their own bomide partition would be really HAIRY... (?if not impossible...?)
here is something I want you to test
create a start or boot floppy
copy chkdsk.exe to it
boot from it, and run
DIR C: /w /o /p
chkdsk C:
with luck, DOS will see the drive.
I have indeed seen a situation where a drive was added.
BUT, DOS did NOT see it.
Not even when booting from hard drive...
And yet, windows recognised it, and could do In-OUT action on it (windows booted off another Hard disk)
this is what the post by DrMDJ is also about...
you don't want to get into a situation where you cannot access data on the drive...

I had to go buy a more powerful heatsink and fan as the screamer was running a little hot. 50-60 degrees celcius....I bought a vantec cck-6035d sink with the delta 38cfm 7000 rpm fan and now I am between 32-40 degrees celcius under full load with sandras burn in wizard. Thinking about getting one of the inwin s500 cases if Frys has them tomorrow....Happy Friday all...well at least as happy as it can be in light of the situation in the world

Hi sarkazztic, The Fry's in the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex didn't have them - the In Wins. Ended up buying over the internet. 35 + 8 for shipping. Watch your prices. Still going down on components. On the S500, check the powersupply wattage.
On the Compaq.

The harddrive has a bad boot sector SU0013 did not work, so it is coming out and warranty time. Plus had a hard time getting it to write the Fat table. Mumble, mumble.
