Good Morning All, It would seem we have our thread info back pretty near 100%. That's great. Don't know about the width - whether we'll get that resolved or not. Wait until Steve comes along I guess. Maybe he can tell us.

Anybody help Jaak out with the music? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
What do you all think. Have we got enough done on the subject of Mobos or shall we get into them a little deeper.
For example, Shinma posted some good images of Mobos and what will go in each slot? Must be a card of some kind. What would be the functions of the cards you would put in?

As for a tune, Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue" or the theme from "Gone With The Wind"....
Slots! OK.....
AGP slot:....*ahem!*...where you put an AGP video card. (Accelerated Graphics Port).
Short, brown port closest to the CPU.
PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) Slots: Those white ones https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Usually 4 or 5 of them.
For sound cards, NICs (Network Interface Card), PCI modems or PCI video cards.
Recommend putting the sound card on PCI slot #2--assigned IRQ. Other cards do not have
to be in any particular order.
But if you have a PCI video card, it's best to separate the vid and sound cards
by at least one slot to avoid interference.
ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) slot: Those long black slots: usually only one on newer mobos;
down at the bottom.
Often situated to share a position with the last PCI slot (you have a choice of which one to use).
Will see this in the specs for the mobo: i.e. "...5 PCI slots, 1 ISA (shared)..."
For "legacy" cards such as ISA modems and the like.
ISA is slowly going the way of the
dinosaurs; but still fighting.
Have seen a lot of new mobos coming out that do not have these on them.
The "new boy on the block" is an AMR slot (Audio Modem Riser). A tiny slot being added to some mobos
for AMR modems. Hasn't really caught on in popularity--quite frankly, IMHO, it never will.
Slot machine: Machine which will either cost you as much or more than a mobo upgrade or,
with a lot of luck, help pay for it. Usually the former.
