Same thing?
Yes same problem.
Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it'll ask you for the CD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.
Seach for regedt32.exe
R-click it and select properties.
Select the version Tab.
Under Item name, click File Version
Copy and paste the Value in your next post.
Although sfc /scannow
should fix it.
If not, we can send you fresh copy of regedt32.exe
I followed your instructions and sfc did not find anything it just simply quit i followed trian's instruction and here is the ver:
5.1.2600.0 (xpclient.010817-1148)
MrFinance
If this version is not the latest, please send me the the latest. If not what should I do?
MrFinance
It matches mine version wise.
As for sfc /scannow, that is exactly how it does things. Although we would like to see something other than what it does.
Try to run regedt32.exe again and let us know what happens.
I tried it and the same thing happened again. What should I do or any suggestions?
MrFinance
Unzip the attached and place it in C:\WINDOWS\system32 and let it overwrite the file there.
And also place a copy of it in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
Andtry it again
Alternately, a workaround, for now if Trains d/l doesn't help, would be to try a replacement registry editor. This one is free...

I followed your instructions and it still does the same thing.
MrFinance
I don't know, what's going here, but give this a try....
Navigate to C:\Windows\System32, and locate regular regedit.exe file.
Hold SHIFT, and right click on regedit.exe.
Click Run as.
Pop-up window will open:
http://vlaurie.com/computers2/graphics/runas1.gif
Make sure the above option is "ticked".
See, if you can change permissions for offending files.
You mean in c:\I386 it's not located in C:\Windows\System32.
I'm sorry, you should look in C:\Windows, not C:\Windows\System32
I followed your instructions. It gave me error pop up stating unable to log on:
"Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons passwords not allowed. logon hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has been enforced."
I tried to enter my password and it gave an error unknown user name and password.
MrFinance
Try fink's registry editor: http://majorgeeks.com/Registrar_Lite_d469.html, and see, if you can get rid of those entries.
Do you have any other issues with your computer, right now?
Hey guys, Broni and Train
It worked and the machine looks completely clean (knock on wood). The only problems left are cosmetic stuff within the start menu, which I can work with or forward it to the windows fix thread as you mentioned. I want to really thank you guys for your taking the time to help me. I really apprecaite it. You guys are ER doctors trying to work miracles. If there is nothing left to be done Thanks again.
MrFinance
In any case, I'm glad it worked :), and at the same time we produced 10 pages in this thread...must be one of the longer malware related threads...hehehe
Go into Usercp and change it. I only see 4 pages. LOL :D
UserCP, Edit Options
Scroll down to Number of Post per page and I set mine to 40.
You cn do the same if you wish.
