It's working! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I took the Memorex mouse completely out of the Device Manager and installed the Compaq and it's drivers from the hardware list.
Last night I just plugged it in and the Compaq was still using the Memorex drivers.
I am in the game !! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Cool - I can remember not so long ago someone might not have been able to figure it out. I'm working on it QoH. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Glad the mouse is working and you're in the game. Have fun with it.
With that DirectX 8a: It's always best to wait a while when a newer version of anything comes out. It's not always best to update drivers. etc. as soon as they become available (with the exception of AV updates, I suppose). Wait a while, see if there are any bug reports, reviews, etc., then make the plunge if you wish. I'm still using 7a on this system--if it works, don't fix it. I could put 8 on this one, and it will probably work, and then again it might blow it out of the water. Like I said, if it works don't 'fix' it.

The DirectX8 was having the mouse problem too. I'll stick with this. It's working great.
I found the refresh rate! I had forgotten to look for that after installing the drivers for this NEC. It was on optimal so I changed it to 60htz. It lists my NEC Multisync 3FGe as the monitor too.
I am having fun with the game ...looking around getting used to the mouse. It looks like I'm there. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Here's the specs and the cost for this system. There is some freight too, about 60.00 worth.

mouse pad https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ 15.00 totally unnecessary...who cares! I'm not counting it.
$988.00 https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Not too bad for a full upgrade.
BTW, if that "Optimal" refresh rate was working for you, change it back (it still may be working at only 60 anyway). According to what I found on that monitor, it will go up to 65hz.
WAIT A MINUTE!! 15 bucks for a mouse pad??? 24k Gold trim????

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ It's a 3M... naturally. Whad ya 'spect ?
Has a gel wrist rest. It feels good but kinda gets in the way sometimes when I'm scrolling.
Take a small bowl of Jello (strawberry is best)--leave it out for five days and viola! Instant "gel wrist rest"!
Oh bistro. What about those neat looking flat monitors ? ...It is Valentines Day. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Thanks QoH - bingo. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Ever seen a Pamper in a parking lot wet and swelled up from the rain... or whatever ? I stepped on one once...hummmm felt pretty good. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
You're right--it's Valentines Day. So why don't you take your sweet, lovin' self down to the shop and buy one for the price of a king's ransom? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Have four of them at work at my workstation--3500 each. No thanks. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
A 17 or 19" Sony will do ya' when you get the buckaroonies. Let your bank account have a rest for awhile though... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Hmmmmm...rain-soaked used Pampers....might make a good sound-proofing for the case....hmmmmm. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
These were at Best Buy and started about 400.00. I had never seen them before. They don't have Sony... or didn't the day I was checking them out.
I am happy with this one. It really looks fine.
Now ...what else do I need...hummm. A CDR-RW ?
Hmmmmm..let's see....you need a ZIP drive, 4 or 5 tape backup units, CD-RW (buy 6 of them), 2 or 3 more hard drives say,...80gb each, an 8-speaker Surround Sound system, an ergonomic computer chair with headrest speakers and foot rudder pedals (for flight games), a completely redecorated room to accomodate all of the above, new shoes (just to celebrate), matching outfit to go with the new shoes that you got just to celebrate,.....
