I have no programs to install. OLD has only the bare minimum...so don't worry.
Ran sfs but did not replace anything.
Some PRECOPY thing it cannot find.Probably due to the CDROM.
Sound card = Don't know / speakers no sound.Even quit that loud beep when desktop first appears. Checked settings not muted they work on OLD.Getting new ones anyway if I can ever get rid of all these customers. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Tweak UI not installed yet cause of CDROM deal.
DUN is messed up. Nothing happens when Icon clicked. Have unchecked rebooted and rechecked in Windows Set up.
Monitor driver not yet. Need to get connected first? It says Default Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX right now.
Yes I ran the 3DMark Demo. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Good thing I had not had lunch ! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Then ran it again for my daughter. Probably a mistake. Now shes bugging me already.
Haven't been shopping yet. Working. Be thru in a few minutes.
It's nick..."Mercy" https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Mosaic and Bistro, Notice we've slowed down abit. Catch your breath now 'cause she'll be back. Neat isn't it? I can see power syndrome already. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Mosaic, Checking my e-mails found one I sent to the others but not to you. Will send tonight. Thanks for all the help you've given us. You have some good stuff scattered around out on the forums that I have been following. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Ok...was thinking about just typing this one up and just e-mailing it; but will post here for the benefit of any readers who have, or might be getting a GeForce2 card. The following applies ONLY to GeForce vid cards!:
Have tried out a few GeForce Tweak programs and NvMax appears to be the best--more user friendly and will run in your Systray.
Very unobtrusive.
1. Go HERE and download NvMax to an empty directory. Can make a directory under C: and call it "Hold", "Wait Here", "Stupid Downloads", whatever. Good place to put all Internet downloads so you can get back to them one at a time at your leisure; they're all centralized and separated from other files for AV scanning, etc.
2. Install the program. Hit "Accept" (if you didn't plan to accept it, why did you download in the first place?) https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
3. Go to Programs under your Start Menu--NvMax should be there. The program will not start automatically on boot, so click and drag it to the Startup folder. This will have it start on bootup and will appear as an icon in the Systray.
4. Click on it to start. Then click on the Systray icon that appeared there.
5. A menu will pop up. Take it slow and easy here...one step at a time. We're going to make a "custom" setting now. CHECK ONLY WHAT IS LISTED BELOW--no matter how tempting that 'other' setting is....
6. Go to "System" (at the top). CHECK "Enable Coolbits" and "AGP 2x"--if you have AGP 4x on your mobo, check that one too.
7. Go to DIRECTX. CHECK "Fog Table Emulation", "MipMap Method", V-Synch:OFF, LOD Bias Adjust: Max Quality.
8. Go to OPENGL: CHECK "Anistropic Filtering", "Buffer Region Extension", Texture Quality: FAST, V-Synch: OFF, Texture Colour Depth: AUTO, Buffer Flipping: PAGE.
9. Now go to SETTINGS: Make sure it says "GeForce 2 MX" or your GeForce 2 card. If you're using the Nvidia reference drivers (and you should), it'll say the former.
10. Go to PRESET: select SAVE TO PRESET. Call your custom preset "Pref 1", Preference 1", "Custom 1", "Alakazam", whatever ( a recognizable name). Save it. You may get a warning message that the preset can't be found, or something to that effect. Don't worry about it.
11. Go back to the main menu, then re-enter the PRESET menu; you're preference should be there. DOUBLE-click (no single click) on your "Custom" preset. It will "flash" to let you know those settings are now active.
12. Back to the Main menu. Click on "HIDE" (not EXIT). The program will go back to the Systray.
13. Run a benchmark program like 3DMark2000 and take note of the score and that it was under "Custom".
14. Go back to NvMax and select each of the presets, one at a time, and benchmark each; take notes! (With 3DMark, use the Default setting; unless you're monitor can't handle it--then change the test to 800x600x16). After benchmarking, you'll know which Preset tends to give you better vid performance.
15. Realize that 3DMark scores can differ slightly even under the same Preset. If you have the time, you can b'mark two or three times under the same Preset and get an average for a score. I've found that on the average, the "custom" Preset as above seemed to produce better scores than the program Presets. Watch out for the QUAKE Presets--they'll brighten up your display considerably--not exactly what you'd want on a day-to-day basis. Really only good for when you want to play Quake.
Enjoy! It'll be fun to experiment.

I just KNOW I'm opening a "Pandora's Box" here, but what the hell.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
When you checked that "Enable Coolbits" under the SYSTEM in NvMax---it did a magical thing.
Right-click on your Desktop to go into Display Properties. Go to Advanced and look under the tab for the card and go into it's Advanced properties. Another Tab (for Hardware)!!!! Glory Be!!! You have entered in the Hidden Setting of the GeForce NetherWorld!!!! You can overclock that card!!!----ooooooooooooo!
I'll warn you now.....don't do it unless you've got extra cooling in your system--like another intake/circulation, exhaust fan and perhaps a small fan attached to the heat sink of the card. Found with my system (equipped with the above-mentioned), that I can overclock the MX card 190/190 and maintain consistent video---anything over that and will get occasional hang-ups.
You have been warned.

This come from Compter Stupidities.
Tech Support: "Ok, I am going to transfer you to a technician."
Technician: "Ok, you want to put a 133 processor on this board?"
Me: "Yes."
Technician: "This board only goes up to 100 MHz. You can use it with Pentium 75, 90, or 100."
Me: "That's a disappointment -- I wish you hadn't sent me a machine with no upgrade flexibility like that."
Technician: "Well, you can put the P133 in -- it will run at 133, even though when it boots it will only say 100."
Me: "REALLY? In the five years I have been working with PC hardware and software, and of all the machines I have upgraded, I have never heard of this. Are you sure you are correct?"
Technician: (long pause) "Um, no."
Me: "You just wanted to get me off the phone, right? Well, I just wanted the answer about my board -- if the answer is no, fine, but don't lie to me."
Technician: "Um, sorry. No, you can't upgrade that board to a processor faster than 100."

THAT'S the one, Mosaic1...thank you. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Have mine set up that way (cabs on a different drive)--but I'm at work; no access to my reg hacks.
QOH: Go into Add/Remove Programs under Setup; have your Win CD in (new one installed yet?). Look under Communications (as I remember--on a NT machine at the moment) and look for Dial-Up Networking. If it's checked, uncheck it and apply. If unchecked, check and apply. Anybody on a 98 and can confirm? Sorry...but got memory creep...creeping away that is... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
If I'm wrong...will check when I get home and correct. Mosaic1?
BTW QOH---crank up those new speakers and play that demo now (optimal resolution).

That's where it is, bistro. I have done that. Unchecked and rebooted hoping when I rechecked and rebooted it would work. Nope.
I'll try it again.
I peeked for the Options\Cabs and it's not here. I have "show all files" in File Options "dotted"
-
OK what happens is when I recheck it after rebooting, then it asks me to insert the Win 98SE disk. So I do. Then I put D: in the little box so it can look there. When I click OK I hear a little tick but then it goes right back to the same little screen.
It says the file pppmac.vxd on Windows 98Second Edition cannot be found.
Set up could not find a file on the
specified path. If the path appears below make sure it is correct.Click OK to try copying again.
Each time I hear that little tick and the screen pops right back up.
I soitanly do have it installed. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

YES !!! It needed the Win98 on it! THanks Mosaic!
I never had to put it there on this OLD machine https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Unless I did it once and then it remembered from then on ? Ok he just rebooted and I'll see what happens.
