OK I had to run get my child from school.
Before I left I had switched the monitors but the one I put on here wouldn't come in good. I had rebooted so maybe I'll sneak this off while it's still running and try again.
Yes the power switch was off when I first plugged it up. I was worried but I saw the switch and then everything was fine.
While I was listening for the fans (which were wirring away https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ )the monitor had a bunch of stuff I missed. Soft Menu II. I turned it back off real quick. Now I'll go get out bistro's NOTES and try the rest.
tee hee!
This is great.
If this monitor won't work I won't be able to post back unless I keep switching. I have my sister on stand by to post if I need her to.

OK error already.
Boot disk failure. Insert system disk and press enter.
I did over and over several times and it just keeps saying that.

OK...don't panic. Did you do the BIOS changes? If not, do those first. Step-by-step now. Don't get in a hurry. BUT...before you do that--check that hard drive (unplug first please...). Make sure it's set for MASTER, then check the cable---black end connector into the hd--red stripe facing side with the power connector, blue end on the mobo in the ATA connector. Then do that BIOS thing. You're well on your way.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
BTW, do you have that Win 98 startup floppy in? Good idea down below there Mosaic1....

Also make sure the blue end on the mobo is oriented right--should be keyed for this, but make sure the red striped side is on PIN #1.
Whoops..Mosaic's post disappeared..? Might be a good idea to do a scandisk on that Win 98 startup floppy in your soon-to-be-old system.. If errors come up, make a fresh copy with your Win CD. Don't really need to have it in for the BIOS work, but might as well, so you don't forget. You'll enter the BIOS before that disk has a chance to boot anyway.

I need to do the bios first but it all rolls by and then that message pops up.. I checked the cables and everything looks fine.
It ends with that message. I tried pushing the control key, it counts real fast. Lists the video card and a whole bunch of stuff.
-
So do I want that floppy in now? I thought that was for the FDISK and format. Should I put it in here and see if it works?
-
I'm in the BIOS ! It rolls by quick but I cought it this time. Control H. Gives you about 2 seconds to see that.
I'll do that and be back. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Check my edit above. Not really necessary right now--if it doesn't work you can make another one. For right now, boot up and be watching for that prompt on the screen (maybe at the bottom) and get to the BIOS and make all those changes---I'm right here if you need help.
Mosaic1: Thanks...right now I'm smoking a floppy disk.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Seven choices.
Create RAID
Delete RAID
Duplicate Mirror Disk
Remove Spare Disk
Set Drive Mode
Select Boot Disk
Lots of other stuff but those are all it will let me pick.
Oh and F1 for View Array Status.

Try Drive Mode. Post back what it says. Don't really want to set up RAID. Are those the only categories it has?
-
OK wrong BIOS. I rebooted and it's the Delete key for set up.
NOW I'm in there.

Good...now I'll just take some heart medicine and calm down.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
