No, as long as your mobo has an AGP slot--doesn't really matter what chipset it has. There has been reports of some minor glitches between some cards and chipsets, but those are the exception, not the rule.
What you are looking for is an AGP-slot, 32mb vid card with 3D capability. Quite a few to choose from and you're going to see a lot of debate (especially amongst gamers) as to which one is "the best" or the fastest--quoting a lot of benchmarking results. Just bear in mind that, when it comes to quoted 'frames per second' capabilities, more fps is great, but remember that your eye can't catch much difference beyond 60 fps. While there are deals to be had, try to
choose a card around the $130-$150 range with the above basic characteristics. I would veer away from the 3Dfx Voodoo cards for now--they were just taken over by Nvidia and it remains to been seen what they are going to do with the Voodoo series. Diamond, Matrox, ATI are all good brands. Perhaps a Diamond Viper 770 Ultra would be a good card for your purposes--takes either the Diamond drivers or the latest Nvidia drivers. A GeForce 2-based card would be another good choice.
More confused now?? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

sdtech: https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ That sounds like a non-committal answer to me. They probably already know that a larger power supply won't fit. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Hmmmm..maybe a little chiseling here, a little drilling there...a touch of an acetylene torch....

WHOA! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ I think I have seen it all now! That place was amazing. Got prices on things and need to compare to what I got so far. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
No not more confused. Just so many Video cards to choose from. I'll keep those three things in mind. Thanks, bistro. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

You're welcome. (Watch that pocketbook! Easy to lose it in there! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/)

Thank you for the powersupply info and the add to what I knew about via chipsets.
I have had my share and then some with their chipsets.

Nothing new there https://discussions.virtualdr.com/, except you left the nibbler off the list https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I had trouble getting in the site yesterday .
Not freezing, no snow, so therefore a pleasant day!
Good afternoon everyone.

Nibbler??? Naaaah, I don't go for the gentle touch...a little C4, det cord, etc. gets the job done faster....

Hi all, I see where you all posted this afternoon and the post count was going up but the posts wouldn't display. I noticed the same problem on some other threads and Vir Dr was down early this morning. Any idea what's happening?

Probably need to archive some more.

Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to "Operation Delta"--an ongoing project to build a computer. At this point in your reading, you may be wondering "Where in the heck is everybody??". Do not despair, for our intrepid builders are in what's called "The Contemplation Phase" of building a computer. In other words...They're thinking, they're thinking!. keep following this project, for as soon as they procure all the parts and are ready to go, they verily shall be posting every 5 seconds.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Boy oh boy, I learned neat "stuff" today. Followed one of Bistro's links and wandered around Hardware Central and other places. Theory of overclocking was neat but I don't think we need it right now QoH. "The Others" plumb failed to tell us how vast the realm of computers is.
I went through the list of stores etc in the Metro Plex. There are two "Micro's", the closest one - 100 miles. Gonna have to do some exploring after Xmas but I can't help feeling what Bistro, Train, sdtech, Snarfll, others including "The Sleeper" have given us we can buy long distance with confidence. When you go into a store, start asking questions, and a glazed look begins in the eyes ....... how can they sell you what you know you want?

Went to a popular store yesterday--won't say what it was, but it's initials are BB. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Asked the guy in the computer section "Hey, bud, where's your graphics cards?" He just stared for a moment with this weird look on his face and tried to send me to the CD section. I found the graphics card section on my own--he came wandering through there a few minutes later. I just pointing to the boxes and he just sheepishly said "Oh". https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
"Hired help"; Yikes!

What are you and Train wanting to modify? Surely one doesn't need C-4 to install a power supply - at least I hope not.
Contemplating - you call this contemplation? I can't wait to have the finished product. I haven't been so challenged in a long time as I have with this project. This is almost better than - huh - can't remember. Oh well. You guys have given us a tremendous amount of material and I fear this is but the surface for some reason. Payback is when you realize we ain't disappearing.

A computer!!! With a Bang.
On the Geforce 2 MXI found the following:
It uses 4W of power, far less than any other GeForce and should work with a lot more motherboards and power supplies.
It's low profile (as well as low power consumption) should benefit case cooling
It doesnt need a fan (fans have been going bad on other geforces)
Not bad requirement, power wise.
