they've never responded to my thread since, so there's not a whole lot I can do with this one. I tried bumping it and they let it fall off the page again. I've removed coding elements that weren't in keeping with the current doctype, thinking that might improve it, even though IE has never been anything close to fussy about standards, or even compliant with them, but apparently that hasn't made any difference either or you'd have said something .
Appreciate your efforts on the JP. So what can or needs be done to bring it to perhaps these people's (the ones doing the ignoring) higher ups that they are not responding here? Surely someone might care when some people in the organization just decide to ignore both the customers and one of their own (ie. you).
Well I bumped it again, but like I said, they responded to someone else with an IE 5.5 issue by saying "upgrade to 6", so I don't know what I can expect out of em.
Thanks for bumping. If they get annoyed again then tell 'em simply that some users (at least one) on vdr is not thrilled with the "ignore problems till the users give up approach". Invite them to come down and post what they have to say rather than trap you in the middle.
If their final position is "ie 5.x is not supported", then fine. That's nonsense and comes off as more the sign of someone who just doesn't want to work a problem (or know how to), but fine. If that's the way they want it then it seems reasonable to that vdr just needs to somewhere let people know what browsers they support.
Well 5.5 is supported. You can read the threads and post to them with it. All you cannot do is see the list of posts when using standard reply. However with quick reply they're obviously visible. That wouldn't be sufficient to say the browser isn't supported. We could make an argument that it isn't fully supported, however.
Semantics there JP. Either one can use the board "normally" with a given browser or not.
The problem here is that it can be demonstrated that IE 5.5 is capable of producing the proper results (display), but their code/templates as they exist are such that it does not. This is just not a problem they wish to or feel is worth correcting. Fine, then they just should say so. I repeat, I appreciate your position as well as your efforts, and am not aiming my critism at you JP. But I didn't just fall of the proverbial turnip truck yesterday when it comes to operational issues (as loosely as this is in that domain). I know the games played. And this seems to be one of the classic ones.
Doc, if you click on the "Display Mode" button in the upper right, is it set to Linear Mode?
Yes indeed Steve, I am in Linear mode (and that's my default CP setting).
I know you posted the source code, which I asked for, but have any of you posted a screen shot of this yet? I'm just curious to see what you're seeing, exactly
