question to epox users
can Vcore be lowered somehow?
people may remember I got freezes with an atlon 1133 on an abit (which I later returned)
to get a good and stable system I HAD to set a lower Vcore (thx train, you posted the solution), which the abit allowed me to do.
Now, on the epox 8k7a+ (DDR and raid) I got instead of the abit, the athlon ran without problems, even when bios reports the same too high Vcore, and I cannot lower it???
btw, my fave retailer (he's a hardware "nut" doing his own stresstests...) does not recommend ECS K7VZA for high end athlons.
He tells me it gets issues when stressed too much, but they are rock solid with durons.
(w/i true, I am gonna be building a yet another machine with a duron for friends.)
As a matter of fact, he won't sell them with athlon on them.
(he uses Aopen for athlons)
have been too awful busy lately.
got withdrawal symptoms.

Lost my Compaq Presario 5360 last night and this morning couldn't bring it up. Same symptoms this morning as last night. Will post in separate thread.
Trying to narrow down my choice of MOBO and CPU, but have been slowed down a bit time wise with problems at work (still in manual mode and working 10 to eleven hours a day)and had to finish up the paperwork on the custody of three granddaughters. They are ours now - the state is out of it. Last court deal this week finally. A scary thing to go through. What a relief. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

What a great relief it must be to finally be done with custody. For all your sleepless nights, there will be 3 kids in this world that know that they were worth the effort. Kids can never have too many people that love them.

I've been lurking and reading and hoping that it will all start to make sense to me. I've yet to find out if upgrading my celeron 400 is worth the effort or even possible..........or if starting from scratch and building one would be best.

Daizy: You could overclock that Cel 400 to around 500, if the BIOS supports changing the FSB. it can go higher, but you'd probably lose stability. Might be better to consider a mobo/CPU upgrade.

Thank you so much for answering. I would think that upping it to 500 wouldn't be much of a change...would it? This system is steady as all get-go....so I'll just go back to my corner and keep reading till I find out what type of motherboard and cpu this machine will go to....and how to find out what type.

You might see a bit of a performance increase, perhaps a slight speed increase if you oc'ed that chip. IMHO not really worth the trouble.

In case anyone's confused about the last two posts, please insert a post between them where I answered and said that board will only support 233 to 500mhz. it may only be from my end, but posts were not posting and deletes were not deleting....

Daisy this says P6BX-A, does it look like your motherboard? If it is the celeron can be removed and replaced with a P III and bus bumped to 100MHZ.
