Bistro, Thanks awfully for the "help". https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Would a trip to the "high mountain" maybe help o'guru of cyberspace? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
The AMD's are cheaper, but I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with the Abit 133BX. Dollars are important but stability and dependability are also. Dr MDJ mentioned it's coming to the end of it's useful life though. The way I see it once the unit is configured it is set unless of a failure at which time upgrading can come with other proven replacements that have taken place.
A name, I have a name, maybe etched in glass (the first mod)!! BT it is, in honor of Bistro and Train who have put up with the Queen of Hearts and myself for going on a year now. A plate on the computer will read:
BT
Made by Operation Delta
SN OpDe 003
And everytime I look at it, I will be reminded of all the members that posted and were a part of this. Better yet a plate with everyone's name on it also. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

This may be the stupidest question I have ever asked but Goose are you and QoH Related in anyway?
also just wanted to comment on the AMD processors...I have built 4 this year using the amd slot A T-birds....I have personal contact with 1 of these everyday and 2 others frequently as they were for people I work with....they are very nice for the price..I also put togther a p3 933mhz for another guy here at my work and it is just as nice but pound for pound if you check the stats....the athlon will outperform the p3
check out this performance test by gforces http://www.gforces.net/hardware/comp...p3/page6.shtml

**Sniff!** I'm touched...really touched...
(That's what the psychoanalyst told me anyway...)
Yes, the BX boards are being 'replaced" by bigger and better...but that's the way of technology. Everything's obsolete the week after they come out. (It's still a good, reliable board). The only combo I'd avoid is a VIA chipset and AMD--others claim success, but I've seen a few too many problems come out with that combination. Have heard that SIS chipsets seem to be a little more stable with Athlons.

Hi sarkazztic, we are related, we're Texans. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Sure be wild if she were in the immediate family though. Ho Boy. We just geehawd when we first started along with Bistro and Train. That's why we have what we have now, because of their ideas. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
But we're going to have to watch Bistro since he's "touched". https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ LOL

you must have wondered about why I asked for the exact model information of this motherboard...
you see, about a year ago I got an abit "BX133", with slot one, and I tried it with EB600 piii (EDIT>> I believe I tried both a slot one and one on slotket, but it may be it was only tried with the slotket... since I got a true slot one later than the one on slotket...),
and tnt2 (m64 or vanta, I think it was a vanta). Well, it worked, but I soon got a proper bus speed CPU for it, and then it worked one hundred percent rock solid.)
now, the one you select is most likely a much later build, and the videocard you selected may work better, and you may even be able to select the proper FSB/PCI/AGP bus speed divider on the newer build.
but at least you know why I asked.
DrMDj seemed concerned abut the AGP bus speed as well, and that was why I wanted investigate this board.
(a Piii 866 would be a cumine @ 133, right?)

Hi Jaak, Thanks for the info. Was wondering about your post.
Just remembered - off topic - added six more bookshelves. Technical books take one set alone. Surprised me I had that many. Found some on vacuum tubes with bias voltage measurements etc. Pretty neat to look at after all this time and compare to current day technology. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

gg1, why AMD over INTEL?
Bang for the buck....I don't see the PIII being worth the extra $$$. I have 3 AMD based systems and I have never had a problem with any of them(except for operator error https://discussions.virtualdr.com/) If you stick to quality parts, as it seems you are, you won't have any problems either. The major concern with the T-Birds is heat. Case selection is very important for heat reduction, these Antec are very good, as well as Inwin cases(I'm using a IW-S506). Which ever way you go choose your parts carefully and you'll have a quality machine.

the Vcore on three possible CPU differ
but the motherboard should handle them differences without problem...
(let it be noted that in the trial I did last year, I had to use a slotket, and I never recommended using slotkets to anyone.)

Got a run in on your money I see. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Seen a few of them at times.

ref. your statement" The only combo I'd avoid is a VIA chipset and AMD,"
I Have had no problems that away, Hercules, yes. ASUS A7V and the darn KT133 is in it also. Anyway, that is what Belarc says.

....and Denmark - tried that trick once but it didn't work out very well. Didn't have a builtin AC, so the tubes were getting too long.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

hmmm,
at least you have the option to select 1/4 for PCIclock/CPU FSB clock so your PCI cards run at proper bus speed
for AGP, 2/3 still results in 89 w.i over 66
however, they also tell you to set AGP to normal then, not default.
you better have a card w/i able to take the speed, tho...

Jaak,
That's the good-bad of boards like the BX133. The bad is that you are "technically" overclocking it (going beyond its design goal) in running it at 133mhz. The good is that is a solid enough board with enough adjustment capability in the bios that it can be done pretty much without problems.
GG1,
So it sounds like you're re-thinking your specs. Well, let's ask the basic questions. What are the kind of things you want to do with this creation? How long of a usefull life would you like to get? What's the rough budget? It would seem more logical to suggest "buy this or that" after knowing that. Based on your initial spec it doesn't seem like you're looking for (want/need) a killer setup.

Train...are you saying to stay away from via chipsets with an amd processor or are you saying via northbridge and amd southbridge?
My first system that I built myself had was athlon slot a 650 mhz with the amd north and southbridge....nothing but trouble...but this latest one that I put together in march I think has a athlon slot a 750 with via chipset and it works great for me....Of course when I put together my new 1.2 ghz machine later next month the 750 will be going to the wife.....cant have her having a faster computer than me...lol
