I installed Myst 3 on this ME machine and immediately got an error message. After many reinstalls, it still kept coming. So off to the manufacturer site I go. Turns out it is a known issue. Here is what I got from the FAQ:
Q. I am getting an error message that says "M3 has caused an error in M3.EXE." when I try to run the game. What can I do?
A. Check to see what type of video card you have. To do this, bring up the START menu and select "run". Type in DXDIAG in the window that pops up and press OK. A window will pop up with a series of tabs near the top and have the title DirectX Diagnostic Tool written across the top. Click on the Display tab and look for the video cards name near the upper left under Name.
If you have an Intel® 815 Chipset (Direct AGP0) or all Intel chipsets and lower end sets such as S3 and SIS chipsets, this is a known problem. This error has also occurred a couple of times with users that have high end video cards but out of date drivers. Do not return your product to your retailer, as we will have a patch available shortly and quickest way to get this problem fixed is to check the www.myst3.com or www.ubisoft.com/support for updates to this FAQ. If you do not have an Intel card, try updating your drivers or playing in software mode.

AH GEEEEEZ! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ That just about includes most gamers! Tell you what...I'll be picking up a copy here probably this week. I'm running an Intel CPU ( 933 P3 @ 1.03 ghz)---have a VIA chipset mobo. Will be curious to see if MYST III will run the way it's supposed to. Gonna be real 'pyst' if it doesn't..... Will let you know when it happens.
(Using a Asus GeForce 2 GTS too....is that "high end" in their book?)

It's a great game, greengoose. Can take your time exploring (incredible graphics) without
worrying if some 3-headed ghoul is gonna jump out and demulsify your head...
You can go to their Homepage and get some background to the storyline. Or...I can send you an email with a 4,567 page explanation....
Max, take my advice and dump that game. Its not worth it Man. Come on now, it has done cost you a PC once......LOL

This is the only game that I make a point to play. It's more a puzzle than a game. I could take or leave the others. Just can't get into large beast-like critters, armed to the teeth, chasing me around.

Was fascinated by Myst, Riven was good, but didn't enjoy it as much; "Real Myst" was fun--but didn't get a chance to finish it. In between the only games I ever played were the Tex Murphy series and Unreal (Myst on steroids).

Just a thought here for people taking advantage of your indexing of the Delta threads. Perhaps you should put in a note telling people not post in those old threads, but to post there questions in the most recent Delta thread. Otherwise you might find all those old threads becoming active amongst the current stuff. Might get confusing if a whole bunch of Deltas started floating around.
