Morning All, An idea for everyone. To have more money to buy computer "stuff" and with the ever increasing cost of energy consider installing a wind charger and solar heating/cooling. If you can't keep your computer cool because you don't have the money for the utilities........What a terrible thought. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ This is so cost effective now it will amaze you. For example if you pay $400.00/mo that comes to $4800.00/yr. or $96000.00/ 20yrs. What would you do with the savings after your cost of installation? Hi gang,
Just taking a break from MYSTing to ask a question. How much trouble would it be to upgrade the video on my machine. Or can it even be done?

120 watt PS
I'm pretty sure that the PS is some proprietary Emachine thingy. Kinda like the problem that Dodge had in replacing the PS in his HP. I don't think I can upgrade it. Or doesn't it really matter what PS is installed. Thanks.

From what I understand is you can't do it easily as you could with a home built. Does your manual say anything about it? The manufacturer builds as inexpensively as possible and most of the time that does not include up grading components. What's your specs and numbers? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

No AGP slot? Then go with a PCI TNT 2 card (32mb)--should be able to pick one up cheap nowadays.
Would be nice to trade up on that ps, but like you said, if it's a propietary design, oh well...You're not going to be able to add too many devices to that machine unfortunately. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

No AGP slot...PCI only. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Ballpark figure...how much is that card you mentioned and would it be difficult to disable the existing video in favor of that card.
I think I'm stuck with this PS unless I do a "gutting" like Dodge is doing. To add salt to the wound, I'm already running a CD-RW that I installed after I got it.
As for installation (Hardware) just install the card or are there other hookups and cables?

Bet your ps is 150Watts.
How much ram do you have??
As my sister had 32MB and we added 128MB for 160MB total.
it sure speeded things up.
Also some of the BIOS allow you so set 4, 8 and 16MB for video.

On some mobos, just installing the card/drivers will cancel out the onboard video. Some have a disble/enable feature in the BIOS for the onboard. While others have a jumper on the board you need to reset.

There really isn'r much of a manuel with this thing. I got it about two years ago. Doesn't talk about upgrades at all.

The ATI AGP graphics isn't shared that I can tell. Here's what it says on the case:
ATI 3D Rage Pro Turbo 2x AGP Graphics with 4MB SGRAM
Can I boost the RAM for this or am I stuck with the 4MB.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could have a clip on mod that would double your PS rating. I have not looked at a PS diagram of current day components but there ought to be something that would mod the power supply and efectively increase the capabilities of the PC.

Well, it seems maybe you do not have shared memory at that.
Did you run belarc by any chance?
If we knew the manufactor we probably be able to find mobo manual.
eMachines does not list them anywhere. I sure have tried to find them.
