Startup Inspector for Windows seems to be a cool little tool also.

I ran across a similar thread in a MyIE2 forum on freeware, and surprisingly there are many progs there that are not listed in this thread, and some of them look, and some are (I tried them), pretty danged usefull. The link is below, assuming I can do that here. If not, a couple of the better ones were Task Tracker and Weather Watcher... And, it's late, so maybe I am mentally trailing off, but somewhere I ran into Process Explorer and TrackerV3, also exceptional progs, IMHO.

And a parting shot of wisdom: once upon a time, I had tried all of those other browsers, including the IE front ends (slimbrowser, avant, myie2, crazybrowser, etc...) and the NON IE browsers (opera, mozilla, firebird) and they all had their plusses, but way too many minuses. Well, after migrating to a new PC, I had not bothered with any of the other browsers, until I noted several raves about the new MyIE2 and all of it's improvements. Well, I have plugged it back in and am duly impressed, it is much better than it used to be. Also re-tried some of the others mentioned above, but they seem to be the same ole same ole. If it's been a while, you might want to try MyIE2 again...
1. THE Rename by Herve Thouzard - absolutely the best file renaming software. I rename 2,000-4,000 files a day. Versions around year 2002 (I use 2.06) don't have the slow startup of current versions. I now use ThumbsPlus' autorenaming for most of my graphics but THE Rename rules.
2. Macroexpress 3 - keystroke utility. I have saved hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of keystrokes with macros written using this simple programmer. It can be used to automate almost any software. I use for so many things. Typical:
During the night backs up all the days' work to second hdd, goes out on the Net and gets 80 pages of tv listings by station and actor schedules, reboots the pc, sounds alarm to get up!
Controls all my still frame video capture, working round the clock unattended including file transfers to second hdd, periodic refresh of tv software and rebooting
Multiple frame capture to bmp in PowerDvD and VirtualDub
Runs any filter in any graphics software as though they were plugins in batch mode;
List my OS open and hidden windows
Clears temp internet files and selected cookies in a couple of seconds with one keystroke etc etc.
I downloaded a program called Splitter for floppies. It seems like a good idea but I haven't figured out how it works. It says to split a file. Well I needed to get a driver for another computer so I got the Setup Icon and then I ran it and put it into a folder.
Now I have many files. So how can I split a file if I have many files? Do I split the setup icon file? Do I split the folder that I put it in? Or do I take all the files that it made in this folder and split the larger ones? That would make about 6 floppies though. Anyone know what is the best way to split this file so I can floppy it into another computer?
The help me files like usual does not help. It just says to split a file that is larger than 1.44 so you can use two floppies.

It would be best putting this question into a new thread..
But to answer your question..
Would be better to use a compression utility like Winzip or Winrar, and in the setup enable "Spanning"this forces the file size to the medium.. so if you are making a zip file on floppy it would automaticly ask for the next disk until the whole file is saved..
Warning .. use good disks.. and don't make the file too big.. nothing worse than creating a file spanning 20 disks to have the lsat disk fail..
Cheers
Hi Undertaker02
I also thought it was a bit OT and not worth a new thread so I sent a message to jonnyb explaining how to use splitter. Of course it's now turned into a long message thread!
To respond to your message, Splitter is an excellent, free utility that works exactly like WinZip and is self-extracting. If memory serves me it copies itself on to one of the floppies. It comes with preset sizes like 1.44Mb but you can divide to any custom size. Huge advantage is the entire program is only about 60Kb(?). I keep a copy on my utilities cd just in case.
Have you ever had to leave for a trip but couldn't shut down your computer because you wanted it to finish downloading something, or finish compiling that program, or some other task?
Well, there's a great little free program that will allow you to make your computer shut down after a certain amount of time, or at a certain time on a certain day.
It's called Shutdown Machine. The program is very simplistic, but will even force your computer to shut down if some program doesn't want to quit. I often use it before I go to sleep if I want the computer to finish something, but I don't want to wait up an hour to turn it off.
Along the same lines I use AMP WinOff which is extremely flexible in shutdown and startup. I use it for doing a forced reboot every day while I am away and running video capture on auto. You can restart, shutdown, log off, suspend, hibernate, hang up modem, execute a program, all on a timed, scheduled or activity/inactivity basis.
It's only vice is you have to use it or close it to do a normal reboot or shutdown (no real problem).
I didn't see it mentioned in the first 7 pages of this thread, so please forgive me if it has, but I've been using a freeware prog called "The Thinking Man's Thesaurus" for about 3 yrs. now, and I'd be lost without it.
Despite it's somewhat chauvinistic name, it's very useful as a spellchecker for a single word. As you type, you'll run across a word that challenges your spelling abilities. You give it a go, spelling it to the best of your abilities and then highlight and copy it to your clipboard. Then open the Thesaurus from a link on your quicklaunch bar (or give it a keyboard shortcut), and you will see your copied word in the box. The thesaurus then tells you if it's spelled correctly, and suggests similarly spelled words. Choose the replacement and copy it to your clipboard. Then return to your word processing app and CTRL+V (paste) the new word right over the previously highlighted, incorrectly spelled word. It also, of course, functions as a thesaurus but I rarely use that function.
Other programs I like are:
USAPhotoMaps (donation-ware, downloads terra-server imagery)
Winamp 3 (freeware .mp3 player)
TextPad (I would die without TextPad, nag screens until purchase)
WS_FTP95 LE (free if you answer the questions correctly)
WordWeb (freeware dictionary)
TurboCAD 2D (30 day trial, registration free)
Websites I consider invaluable:
VirtualDr Forums
Trend Micro HouseCall free on-line virus scan

I would have to say that my honest favorite is MS notepad. I use it for EVERYTHING. You can even wright code in it! :D
Gadwin Printscreen

I use this all the time as it's so handy to be able to take any size image from the active window and paste it into any program...try it.
David......
Alas, I went to the MomWallpaper site, and it tells the sad news, "Not Compatible with Windows XP" .... *sigh* :(
