QoH: the blowhole fan is an 80, so's the rear exhaust and that rather weak ps fan. But there are two 80's and one 120 blowing IN; along with the "booster" nautilus fan---so there's a little more cool air entering and circulating than is being exhausted. For a regular setup, those side vents are OK; but with more and bigger fans, closing up those vents seems to direct the airflow better. Otherwise with the big 120 intake, a lot of that air would be blown out the side panel, rather than up into the case. I'll draw air flow lines on the pics (if that camera will work correctly https://discussions.virtualdr.com/) to demonstrate.
Mods to complete:
Replace power LED with blue LED
Replace HD LED with white LED
Install rounded IDE/ATA/Floppy cables
Install fan bus
Cigarette lighter...no...scratch that....
Install double temp gauge with off/on switch modification.

Yeah and speakin' of that cigarette lighter...
Not that I am going to do it... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ but, there is something I have wondered about. Recollect me tellin' ya I am deficient in electricity ?
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/I thought automotive stuff was 12 Volt. How can they hook up a 12 Volt object to 110 without using any kind of (?) transformer?

You asked, Not that I am going to do it... but, there is something I have wondered about. Recollect me tellin' ya I am deficient in electricity ?
Smart move in my book.
It is a heater, believe me, it will not see a difference and will work. Just take a little longer to heat up as you will be using 12 volts and not 13.5 - 14 volts is all. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Now do not try that with a motor. Instant death for t.

What do u guys think is better, 2 256 dimms or 4 128 dimms. My motherboard only supports 516 and it has four slots. I havent seen anything with reguard to this. Any suggestions?
Thanks Train. Just curious.
greengoose, I don't think that'd be such a good idea...I never have understood OHM,Watt,Mhz,joules,kw,volts,AC,DC... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ forget it!
uNLESS YOU DO HEAVY Graphics, not much reason to go beyond 128 MB.
I would look at the prices of 4 verses 2.
Which ever was cheapest is the way I will go.

Morning, Picked out one word of QoH's descriptive electrical phrases - joule pronounced of course jewel. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
QoH, you can take the baisic relationship voltage=currentxresistance; E=IR and expand on it mathematically. This is for direct current ie, DC and for AC an additional baisic factor is brought in for the pulsating nature of alternating current ie, AC. What is fascinating is the small amounts required for say, the computer you just built. Had we stayed with vacuum tubes none of us would be able to afford a computer because of the size of our electric bills. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

greengoose, I have an old TV with tubes. I bought my surge protector with as many joules as I could find. (had to find something to go with that jewel on the top of the Golden Orb. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ )
Train, I am digging. I'll find some "mod" to shock and amaze him yet. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Ya know those vents on the side...the ones you guys covered with tape ?...well those make an excellent nail polish dryer.
QOH
You are using the fingernail polish wrong again.
You put it on a bolt or screw , just a drop, before you tighten it.
It is called Lock-tight. And works like a charm. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
If you hear a loud clicking sound from your monitor and it has a hot insulation smell, buy a new one as that one has a very limited life expectancy. Seen this problem yesterday and no it was not mine.

How did you fasten the fan to the video heat sink? For my intake [80mm] hits it, but still hiting 100 F. But, not excedeing it anymore.

Train: It was fastened by 4 1/2 inch screws that usually come with small fans. Found it to be a little loose though and removed it when I installed the two side panel fans. Thermaltake makes a video chip cooler called Blue Orb--you need to remove the present heat sink and replace with the Orb---real nice though--does the job.
Installed the blue LEDs for the Power and HDD Activity lights---look pretty neat. Installed the round ATA/IDE and floppy cables---makes for a lot of air space in there.
But my Sunon 120 fan bit the dust---not sure why--replacing it with a Panaflo 120. Have a 80mm fan in there temporarily. CPU temp: 28C (82.5F) System Temp: 25.6C (78F).
Er...that was 4x 1/2 in. screws, NOT 4.5 inch screws https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Talk about a BIG heat sink....

Oh....no joy on the camera...this sucker is a real off-brand and the driver's not working correctly https://discussions.virtualdr.com/---can't upload the shots; refuses to cooperate. Oh well, will keep looking around.

Just for info, jr sure is quieter than the Compaq. And just a smiggin quicker also. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Let's see a plastic tube from intake fan to video heatsink area. ??? Like a duct. Something to think about. From side panel. Ideas.

Neighbor upstairs approached me and wants a custom-built computer--okie dokie. Taking the profits and get me a GeForce 2 GTS with a Blue Orb cooler. Upgrade fever? Naaaaaaaaaahhhh... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Installed the dual-temp gauge panel---but it runs off batteries which can run down after a while, so I installed a small paddle switch and rigged it up so it can turn off and on---looks pretty swifty. Will be checking out this camera one more time to see if I can't get some pics of this thing for youse guys.
Profit ??...biiiiissstro!!! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Ya just upgraded!!!! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Oh...tell me this, is the probe next to the CPU going to give the same reading as when I go into the BIOS and read it there or will I have to do math ? (like I have to do with my alarm clock I deliberately set 16 minutes fast https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ )
[This message has been edited by Queen_of_Hearts (edited 03-12-2001).]

The temp gauges are Celcius only--have to do the math. 22.2C is room temp (72F). So you just estimate from there, or use a measurement converter program. The temps on the guages are +,- 3 or 4 degrees from the BIOS temps.
BTW, if any of you are interested in changing the LEDs on your sytem, go
HERE https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Just installed that fan bus---eliminated about 6 plugs sitting at the bottom of the case. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Happy camper....
Running 5.01; still have the heebie-jeebies about my bout with 5.5---too buggy on my system.
P.S: Blue LEDs are available at Radio Shack.

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Miss Smarty!!! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Wonder why it won't work in 5.01 ?
I been workin' on a Window... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Thanks bistro.
It wasn't the C to F I was worried about. It was the difference between what it says in the BIOS and what the guage reads. I read an article where some guy went to the trouble of putting tiny copper wires between the heatsink and the chip. Of course, he was waaaay overclocked and had good reason to be concerned. In the fins of the heatsink is close enough ?
I'll go see these LED's now. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Bad idea to put any kind of probe directly between the chip and heat sink--possibility of raising the heat sink off the chip ever so slightly--won't get the heat transfer necessary.
I thought that was the idea. To get as much contact as possible. He musta been pretty worried about those temps... then probably defeated the whole purpose by doing that. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
No Train but I did read about the water cooling tho. Such desperation! They spent some bucks on this stuff too !
Boy if it's that much trouble...why not just buy a bigger processor?

Despersperation is right. Probably BLOOD
That was a little far with the wire trick.
For the math formula to convert C to F.
Temperature C times 9 divide by 5 = first answer
first answer plus 32 = degrees F
by the way -40C equals -40F and is the only place they match.
