https://discussions.virtualdr.com/Train,
I used the leaf blower for the kids room. Barbie shoes flying everywhere..... blows um right into the garbage bag I warned um. If it's on the floor ....it's gone. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Greengoose,
I'm getting the 20 gig knowing I'll be able to add another should it become necessary. Another thing to learn later https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
bistro,
How'd your shopping go ? Did ya get in and out ? Make use of those hunting skills ?
-
OK, You both made good sense on the 20GB. I'll go with it. (Please note - a decision has been made https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ ) I be knawing on that for a few days.
QoH, Looks like our units will be almost twinkies. That's not bad. Lot of advantages to that. Thanks you two.
Bistro and Santa still visiting?

greengoose
I was thinking of a money availability thing. Get one now, then when it can be afforded the 2nd. I am running about 6 Gig on C:\ and saving {backing up} on cd-r's and/or LS120's. Those things I do not want to lose.
Come to think about it. A partitioned 30GB with a tray attachment and a parallel port tray device with external powersupply, I could swap files with anyone. [Brothers do not have usb]. Now to remember where I saw it.
Definately beat floppies using a splitter.
Thanks for jogging the old noggin.
Yes, It is slower than net, but faster than floppies. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
What happened: Sent an attachment of 8MB which took under 3 minutes. Brother stated that -_-_-_- thing took 28 minutes to download, I answered; you wanted it https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

greengoose,
It's gonna be a good 'un ! Might as well ! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

You two definately have the makings of good machines.
I have slightly different requirements, so the planning is different for cpu and mb.
Probably wind up with the same Geforce vid card.
Will be back, going to attend a short class on 3.1. Yes, I have a 386 with that os . Got the 3.1 install floppies with it https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Like to see someone hack that thing as it will not be hooked to the net https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Joy To The World... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Saw a good comparison today with those GEForce 2 cards--if you're interested, here's how to I.D. them by type:
GeForce2 MX = Value Chip (about $120-150)
GeForce2 GTS = Good Gaming Performance--$$
GeForce2 Pro = Killer Gaming Performance-$$$
GeForce2 Ultra = Flagship GPU("Attack of The Incredible Shrinking Wallet")
As far as the MX's go, in the comparison it looked like the Hercules Prophet II MX beat out the Creative Annhilator 2 MX by just a slim margin--both appear to be good low price vid cards. Just for your consideration (and budget).

bistro
There several versions (manufactor??) of MX cards some do better than others. From several different test sites I found. Still awful close together though.

Right. Got lots to choose from. Got my eye on a GTS or Pro--just patiently watching the prices for now--perhaps in the Spring.

Morning all, Ah, once again progress was made. Nor wind, nor rain , nor Santa will keep us from our appointed tasks. Xmas shopping in the computer section. I like the concept. Told ya'all that's what he was doing. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Visiting Santa https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Mornin' yall,
Well, it's still clean https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ They outta be here this AM so I'll be .....entertaining. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I cheated and lit a "freshly baked bread" candle. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
Yeah...last night I lit a "T-Bone Steak with Sauteed Mushrooms and a side order of Onion Rings" candle....
-
-
Not unless you let them eat the candle when they get home... OR scatter some sprinkles on the floor and stove; burn a little cookie dough in the oven and put little raw dough crumbs on the counter top...then tell them that a panhandler came to the door, but you didn't have any spare change, so you gave him the cookies because, after all, it's Christmas time--and you gave him all the presents too because you felt so sorry for him and... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Thinking of hiring a street vacuum truck and run it in our daughter's room...
Hey, just a heads up--depending on if the wife feels well enough to travel--will be going to her parent's over Christmas sometime in the next few days. Only computer there is my brother-in-law's--a very old Aptiva 166mhz (Yikes!)--will be working on it, upgrading as much as possible as a Christmas gift to him (I love Mission Impossible scenarios). So I might be out of the net for a few days. Father-in-law needs the phone line to stay open during the day, so it'll be somewhat late at night before I can get on. E-mailed some other folks and encouraged them to come on over here and help--hope they drop in from time to time. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
Wish I'd thought of that. Wife gets to see family while you "up grade an old computer". That is smooth, whaddaya think people? Am I right? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I posted a notice on a new virus on 98 that computer ops notified on fyi.

When do half days start this year https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I'll bet you looked in real good.

Bistro, Have a great time if you really get out of pocket, but it looks like you have good coverage. We'll be contemplating of course, maybe scheming would be a better word considering who's involved.
QoH, Don't look like we can get away with nuttin' - bummer.
Well, teachers, reviewing the past threads of Operation Delta, and downloading pertinent info regarding our component list. What a reduction of info we have gone through for our result. Ya'all have imparted alot in a short. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Mosaic1, puh-leeeze don't say "charges"...just finished my Christmas shopping...Visa called me today and asked if I would be their 'poster boy'....

Ok Train; will keep copious notes. The thing isn't very fast, so what I'll do first is soak the whole system, including the monitor, in 3-in-One oil...then,.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Evening !
I don't know why I go to so much trouble. I know it won't last, but it just feels soooo good to have a sparking house even if it is for just a few minutes. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
So many goodies to eat. And parties to attend.
I have finished my shopping. Feels great. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Morning All, Think of it this way. The house will be ready for your new computer, QoH. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Probably. (fast Mouse?)
Train, what's your opinion on where to buy "memory" in the next few weeks. There is an interesting thread on 98.
[This message has been edited by greengoose1 (edited 12-21-2000).]
-
greengoose1: went to that link--pretty decent prices. If you can find prices that reflect anywhere from 45 to 50 cents per mb, you're doing good. Watch out for "bargain" RAM though. Better to stick with some of the more well-known brands such as PNY or Kingston. I'd stick with 64mb increments or two 128's. If one goes bad on you, you still have enough memory to run your system until it can be replaced--wouldn't rely on just one stick for all the RAM.

Hey Bistro, thought you were already working on an "old" computer. Been quiet today. Later. Thanks https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
