2 Blue screens of death

Hello to everyone. I came here for the exact same reason as most people on this thread: dump_wmimmc.sys

And yes, I always get a BSOD when I try to start Maple Story, or whenever I close Gunbound.

The odd thing is, I used to play Maple Story and Gunbound on this laptop just fine a few weeks ago. There was no problem whatsoever. The problems started when I formatted my hard disk and reinstalled my OS. I downloaded Maple Story again, and patched it, but then I got the BSOD. For the first time. I looked for the file: dump_wmimmc.sys, but it doesn't exist.

I already installed the newest drivers for my computer. So I'm starting to think it might not be a driver issue. The whole nProtect thing sounds quite reasonable. Yet, I don't understand how Maple Story worked for me before the formatting, and doesn't work now. :(

Okay so after reading all of this it's pretty much been determined that:

1. This is not a driver issue, so the Windows BSOD error message is invalid.
2. It is not an antivirus error; your antivirus software does not need to be uninstalled.
3. Uninstalling/reinstalling will not help.
4. nProtect is clearly not accepting emails. (So I reccomend spam mailing Wizet, heh.)
5. Video cards are not the problem.
6. Maplestory itself is not the problem. (If it falters with Gunbound, too.)

Is everyone who is getting this error running XP sp2?

I still maintain this is suspiciously an SP2 + GameGuard problem. I've just tried it out on XP and XP with SP1 again and I've had no crashing and/or disconnection problems whatsoever. Oh and those machines aren't updated to the latest video drivers either. Each using old catalyst and forceware drivers. Out of everyone experiencing this problem, how many of you actually have SP2 installed? I know Xen mentioned he's on SP1. All I'm doing is trying to root out the obvious and maybe narrow it down further.

Forgive my ignorance, but does anyone know if the driver tool is still part of the resource kit? I swear it used to be there...

You can also add that crashes occurs with Lineage 2 (another game protected by GG)

All my friends who have Gunbound also experience the same problem when they close the game. So I guess nProtect is responsible here. I know I'm not gonna be playing it until they fix this issue.

I have always used SP2, and Maple Story has worked perfectly. It used to work on this computer, which comes with the SP2 and the latest drivers. I'm thinking the fault is GameGuard's and GameGuard's only.

No I'm not disputing that it never worked before. I've experienced other problems when GG was on version 69x (in game terms, when the sleepy problem started happening). The BSODs just started happening after 71x. And yes, this game was working fine prior to that. If you've read my post a few pages back, I've explained what GG is doing .. albeit in somewhat lay terms.. hehe

This reminds me .. shouldn't this thread be moved to the game software forum now? It's clearly a game issue.

Wizet and INCA have solved this issue.

After recent GameGuard update yesterday at 5:20 am EDT (9:20 am GMT Wednesday, June 28th 2006), several users have been experiencing sudden shut down after closing MapleStory client. As of now, GameGuard issue has been patched and it is now safe to run MapleStory client.

Interesting... Unfortunately, my rebooting problem doesn't occur only after closing Maple Story. I randomly receive error 230 from GameGuard and a few seconds after that I am presented with a reboot. When (if) Wizet puts the manual patch on their site I will attempt to update Maple Story that way and post my results with GameGuard. As far as I can tell GameGuard is completely updated. When I start Maple Story the GameGuard window opens fine and updates as well as connects without any problems. Once I get into the game, however, it's a completely different story.

I can confirm what Stalos just said. No more BSODs on my maple machine. But I still have that problem of refreshing/redrawning my desktop .. it's virtual blackness. Here I go rolling back the forceware drivers again.

Xen: The 230 Initialization error usually occurs when gg sees a process it doesn't like. As I mentioned in a previous post regarding gg, gg will initiate a reboot from bypass/hack attempts. It's a possibility that Norton is protecting your kernel (a good thing hehe) but here it's not conducive to a good maple experience. You might want to try (if there is an option for it) to make gameguard.des a trusted file (if you have the rights to change those settings). From what I see from my process manager (I could be wrong here), maplestory.exe in your install directory isn't the actual game file. The real maplestory.exe is generated and hidden.

gosh .. who said windows was friendly? It's a complete nightmare compared to Unix or BSD LOL

I have full administrator rights to my machine, Unbalanced. Would you mind elaborating on how I might go about granting trusted rights to the files with Norton? Also, as far as adding them to Zone Alarm goes, I don't have any problems with the game connecting to the internet. However, if I am correct in assuming that the GameGuard application is GameGuard.des, how might I go about adding that to Zone Alarm's trusted zone (if you know)? If the trusted zone you are referring to is whether or not the program is allowed to access the internet, then it can be added by allowing it access and selecting the remember option on the dialogue box, right?

Maybe there is hope after all.

The issue has been fixed. If you are still having problems, try deleting your GameGuard folder and restarting Maple Story. :)

Actually, I was referring to your anti-virus. Personally I use Kaspersky and like I said in a post earlier, you can add it as a trusted file. I'm afraid I haven't touched a Norton product in years.

For anyone using the latest version of Kaspersky you can just click on the "add to trusted zone" (or something to that extent) when the balloon pops up or

2. Click on protection in the left menu
3. Click the Trusted Zone button
4. Click add and a new window called Exclusion Mask pops up
5. Click the specify link
6. Click browse and locate gameguard.des in your maple story install directory
7. Click OK, OK, OK

Just a warning. You're telling Kaspersky to completely exclude this file from all it's little activities and all you're doing is opening up a potential security hole. But at least Kaspersky won't moan anymore.

With regards to Norton, I'd assume (this is off the top of my head so the steps might not be that accurate) you'd open NAV (get to it's options window) and either under auto-protect or manual scan there should be an exclusion option. From there I'd assume it's the same by locating gameguard.des and clicking ok. I'm sorry I can't be anymore clear.

Now with regards to zone alarm, I suppose as long as maplestory.exe has permissions to access the network/internet etc. you're ok. And yes, the remember option is correct. (again I'm sorry I can't be more clear about zone alarm, I use kerio .. yes I know that can be disabled rather easily once something malicious actually gets onto my computer)

But nothing is more safe than practicing good computing habits. That or putting your computer back in the box and sending it back to the manufacturer. With computers, I find nothing is ever 100% hehehe

Thanks for the reply, Unbalanced. As per Kittieboy's post, I'll check to see if my problem has been resolved once the current server check is over. With any luck I'll be able to get in.

EDIT: Everything appears to be fixed now. I guess nProtect and Wizet were aware of the problem all along.

My problem does appear to be resolved (thank god) after the new GG patch. I did receive a reply email from NProtect, from a tech who appears to have a poor grasp of the English language (surprise, surprise).

Obviously my use of the words "MapleStory", direct quotes from the BSOD, and a detailed explanation of exactly what was happening was not enough detail for them. I hope and pray that I'll never have reason to contact them again. :rolleyes:

Hello everyone. I greatly apologize if bringing up an old topic is considered bad form here, but I need some help that directly relates to this topic.

I've done the following, as suggested by this topic:

• updated my video drivers (integrated video card in an HP pavillion ze2000)
• downloaded the newest version of Maple Story (multiple times...)
• thoroughly erased Norton/Symantec
• tried disabling my firewall (Zonealarm Pro) and also tried allowing the game to do all it needed to
• deleted and re-downloaded the C:/Program Files/Wizet/Maple Story/GameGuard folder

Now, some things of note that might be of interest are:

• My BSOD comes up before Maple Story starts, just after the nProtect progress bar dissappears. Zonealarm also asks me to give MapleStory.exe permission before the BSOD.
• My BSOD error is slightly different. I get a stop error, but there's no mention at all of a "dump_wmimmc.sys" file. It simply states the stop error, then does a "dump of my physical memory" and suggests talking to my computer administrator. I can take a picture if necessary.
• I downloaded the game Gunbound (which also uses nProtect) just today, so it's definately up to date, and the exact same problem happens at the exact time in the exact same way.
• A couple months ago, I played Maple Story all the time, but I had to reformat my harddrive and since I tried re-installing (very recently), the BSODs occur.
• I'm running Windows XP SP2 on an HP Pavillion ze2000 laptop.
• I downloaded and installed Maple Story just fine on a separate computer (a desktop) with absolutely no problems at all.

I'm hoping you guys can help me out, as you seem to be very good at this stuff. Again, if this is bad form, could someone please advise me on a better course of action? Thanks a lot.

I get this EXACT SAME PROBLEM, but I don't use Zone Alarm, I even tried disabling and shutting my Firewall off.

Im having this same problem. I tested it on Maple Story, Gunbound, as well as Silk Road which all use the same Game Guard program(?).

Differences:
-I don't use a laptop, I have a desktop with an old nvidia graphics card without the latest drivers (to lazy, not having problems as of now besides this one)
-I do not have norton or zonealarm installed at all (avg and kerio work fine for me)
