Yes, it is sad, but the order has been broken and requires, I'm sorry to say, a touch of your gentle hand, your highness of the OC, MO, MB. I will check back after sufficient rest and refreshment. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Evenin' to you too Train !
I was on OLD this afternoon looking for something. Talk about an ANGRY machine. He's furious. I cannot believe I ever used that thing! What a snail! It took 45 seconds for IE to even start gradually filling the screen.
I do empathize with both e and OLD. But not enough to go back.....EVER !
-
QOH
Understand the 45 seconds https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Had the same type of thing with son's computer. His had a 33K modem also.
Patience was definetely a vertue at that point.

Now THERE'S an investment opportunity....buy stock in a company that still makes a 28K modem called the "Patience 2000"....
-
But that 45 seconds was not for a web page to open...it was to open the Window to get to a web page! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Now, I'm spoiled rotten...I know.

Now some us are not so $$ fortunate. Now, we finally find out why a certain computer got upgraded. LOL

Ahhhh getting the $$ for upgrades is easy.
The Master taught me the following in order to do so:
1. Eat nothing but soup and crackers for 6 months.
2. Reuse coffee grounds. The caffeine suppresses the appetite.
3. Go to computer fairs with a begging bowl and a sign: "Will Work for Upgrades".
4. Convince the neighbor using "tech talk" that he really doesn't need that fancy 32mb video card that he has and that a 4mb card is MUCH better. You just happen to have one for trade and are willing to do him a favor.
5. Convince the wife you had to go buy new tires. Just don't let her catch you with the Armor-All.
These and other tips are available in "Bistro's Guide to Upgrading by Cheating" for only 12.95 at all fine bookstores...

Dodge, Still working on it. I been around but time is at a premium right now. Pick up OK?
Now, moving on. Some interesting posts on 98 having to do with Virtual Dr. under ATTN .....
Almost changed my mind on what to build but am going to stay with the overall original plan. Even though I'm not a gamer, this system could comfortably handle it.
Trying to define each OpDe thread so people can find stuff more easily. I hope this indexing will help everyone. (It will the QoH) https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Some one said on 98 that we in effect need to promote OpDe to get more people involved. One thing is to briefly describe what OpDe is and what it does. Maybe lengthen out the opening statement a little more. Maybe readers feel intimated by you gnomes of knowledge. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ We know the threads and are we taking for granted others know what we know. My goal is to see this the best it can be since it appears Operation Delta will continue. Now it's ya'alls turn. I need some inputs here. Thanks https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Oh, I sneak in once in a while Dodge. One thing leads to another...been workin' on a little project surreptitously. I finally have a computer big enough to handle not just one... but four graphics programs at once. More if I had them. And there's no reason why I can't do that either. I have 20 GIGS now instead of a little over 100MB...It's wonderful. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Good plan goose. We were right there in the middle of it, but there are so many it probably seems daunting to have to read that much. It was a blast. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ bistro is such a nut. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ I still get a kick re reading them when I'm looking for something specific.
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/Bistro she didn't fall for that Armor All scam did she ? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Was going to reply to the ATTN thread, but most of what I wanted to say had been said. I'm not that well known over there now anyhoo. I know from experience how off-topic threads can really get out of hand; turn into flame wars, photo 'albums' that take folks 2 years to load the page, etc.. One dedicated thread (i.e. Mach Show) is enough.
I think the mods have done a terrific job in keeping the BS to a minimum, while still letting folks have their humor. (They've had the Patience of Job when it comes to me...)
As for Operation Delta; this is a good thing. A place for banter while WAITING FOR QUESTIONS ON BUILDING/MODDING COMPUTERS! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
(Er...sorry...did I wake anybody up?)
-
Bistro, I have seen this thread since it started and figured it was a private party so I stayed out. Finally I decided to come in and see what you all talk about that would take up 28 threads.
Glad I came in. You guys and gals have helped me alot.
goose, the truck is just fine, fixed the leak. My knife folded up on my finger and I had to pry the blade out of there. Boy that hurt.
Train, have you heard this one... Found In Russian Dump........
QoH, 20gig is definately much better than 100mb any day. I was amazed when I got this HP and it had 13gig. The old compaq only had 135 after windows was installed....

I have to keep my tetanus shots up to date, cause I'm on a volunteer fire dept.
Train, I have never had to pull a knife out like that. IT wasn't fun. My wife said she was lucky she didn't see the blood.....LOL
ANyways to keep this ON TOPIC here. Got my Floppy Ribbon today. It works great. That sucker was 32 inches long. Lord I could have just about sent one end to Train to hook to his puter......lol
Now I just have to get a new floppy drive. My HP case had the cover for the Drive on the case. With this new case it shows the bare metal front and looks horrible....

They do make 24" floppy cables...just gotta look for them (but even that is too long). And why, oh why, oh why they keep making them with that legacy 2nd connector is beyond me....
-
Is it just my imagination that it seems when bistro replies to a post, suddenly everyone goes silent? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
I know mine is 32" and that is a little long. My old one was about an inch short. But it works, thats what counts.
The only longer ribbons I could find was Universal. That seemed a little on the stupid side myself.
Bistro, you just come in and post when everyone else is sleeping.....lol

must be...unless you have none! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I think you ought to design some short floppy cables without that idiotic twist.
-
The reason there is a silence is the awe we hold you in. This also gives us time to "figger" what in the world you're talking about. (really that was a bit much) https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

The new factory-rounded floppy cables don't have the twist (probably twisted inside the sleeve). Just saw these. Look a heck of a lot shorter.
