Coming into GW BUSH International ? or Hobby?
Let me know your itenerary.
Just posted an inquiry over at Win 98; hopefully there'll be some takers who might know a trick or two. Did you check those files, QOH?
EXTRA (or different):
FINDCD EXE
EXTRACT EXE
MSCDEX EXE
NOT HERE:
Findramd.exe
Msdos.sys
Ramdrive.sys
Setramd.bat
Did you hit ENTER to make sure those other ones were listed also? If so, and they wern't there anywhere in the list then BAD BOOT DISK!!!! Those folks didn't know or didn't care what they were doing. Here's the deal....You can take a fresh floppy and find a trusted friend with a good computer that's running Windows 98 SE (confirm: that's what you're going to put on it, right?). Then make a fresh Startup disk in Add/Remove Programs. OR you can wait a couple of days and I'll send you one that'll work. What'll it be? If the former, do another check on it for all those files before using it.
QOH
When you copy that bootdisk, use diskcopy in dos. Ctrl, bootmenu, 5. command ,enter At C: Prompt p [type in] diskcopy , hit enter.
will look like this C:\>DISKCOPY A: A:
How I copy my Windows 3.1 disk using this 98SE machine. Follow the prompts and it will copy to disk then prompt for blank then copy to the blank when done ask if you want to make more or not. I found it to be very freindly.

Good link, murph. Thanks for jumping in there--yeah, some of this stuff would be good for the "throne room"... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Problem here is that it appears there may be some missing files on the Win 98 boot disk. QoH is enabling the large disk support, but it still keeps coming up as "Unknown System" rather than FAT32--possibly because of the missing(?) files.
Just downloaded one bootdisk and it had only nine files on it. Question - What's the minimum amount of files required for startup?

Should have a total of 24 files on it.
yes I hit enter and that was it, then the A prompt appeared. It says on it Microsoft boot disk for Windows 98 series 1.44mb For distribution only with a new pc.
I'll find one tomorrow somewhere. Do like Mosaic suggested and ask Best Buy to borrow one of theirs for 5 minutes. Probably get away with it.
Can't hurt to ask. Happen to have my own CD in my purse.
Those *&^&%$ idiots gave you an OEM version of a startup disk. WRONG!!! You need a Win 98 startup disk THAT WAS MADE WITHIN WINDOWS 98SE IN ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS!!! (I'm not mad at you, QOH,...just those bozo-heads...)
Not sure I'd trust those "techs" at Best Buy either. They might try the fast way out too. (I.E. just make a quick copy of an OEM floppy they have lying around). Best to find that friend with WIN 98 (BTW, you shouldn't need the CD--but it wouldn't hurt to have it handy).
QoH
This boot disk should work well:

98boot10A.exe

Yeah, murph--that'll work. Problem is that all the files QOH has downloaded on her "old" system (the one she's communicating with now) turned out corrupted.
Yikes! If she can find that trusted friend to download that, then make a floppy, that be OK. But while she's there, might as well make the standard Startup floppy.
Any Win 98 not just SE ? Surely somebody has it I know. I was just so sure each trip today I would have it this time. BUT NOOOOOOOOO.
