OK Wiring done. Video card in. Sound Card in
or should I leave that out for now?
The Cyclone right in front of the Video Card or skip a slot ? It just hangs there. No fins like the cards.
RAM just snapped right in. Closed the clips.
Roger, QoH.....brrrzzztttt....acknowlege "Clips are closed"....you are "Green" for go ahead....brrzzzzzzt....make sure youbrzzzzggtt...brzzzzzztttt...or you could die...brzzzzt...
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ OK we may have a problem.
I do not see where this keyboard will plug in. May need some sort of adapter. And this on here is a compaq so I doubt it would work.
bisssssssstro?
I'm going to go see about this adapter or a new keyboard. Be back after while.
I need a break after all this work https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
And when I get back if you're still not here....I'm flying to Washington D.C. and I'll hunt you down....I'd recognise your typing anywhere.
...you'd better start running !
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ OK....what does the plug on the keyboard look like? Round, flat? It may need that adapter (didn't you already say that?). Depends on the keyboard---best thing to do is take your keyboard and mouse down to the shop and get some help. Sorry--but I assumed both your keyboard and mouse would be PS2. Didn't anticipate this. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
EDIT: Does the mouse plug fit? If not, like I said, you'll need an adapter for that too. Tell the guy you need both to convert them to PS 2.

^^^^^^ see if this works.

aaaahhh They were cheap. I got both new. They wanted almost as much for the adapters. 'Sides I got a birthday soon. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Might get that tailless neutered mouse.
Hmmmmm...well...I have "Taps" in my Windows media folder...will make sure I play it... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
A good thing to do is check to make sure all your fans are working properly. You'll need to plug in the mobo, check all your fan connections (making sure they aren't just plugged into each other... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/) Then turn on the system for just enough time to eye-check that the fans are working. Then turn the system off (by holding in the power switch for a couple of seconds). Just keep your mitts outta there when you do this....
OK something strange happened and it double posted then deleted both.
I said I have to change over these monitors too. Then I'll be ready to plug it up. I'll post just before I do. Then right after I plug it up, so if you don't hear back....I'm dead.
Just a quick "review": Put your vid card in the AGP (small brown) slot first, then skip the first PCI (medium-white slots), put the sound card in PCI#2, then put the modem in the ISA slot (long black slot) (if it's your old one) or, if the new one, in the last PCI
slot. Make sure all cards are screwed down.
Make sure they are well seated in the slots. Next, put all your IDE and ATA cables on the drives and connect to the mobo.
Next, taking the power cables/plugs one at a time, plug them into the drives--remember to plug a small one into the floppy drive. Use the extra (unused) ones to connect to the fans if not done so already.
Once done with all that, double check all connections.
Connect your monitor, keyboard, and mouse (that's all you'll need for the moment)--modem optional if you're using your old system to communicate to here.
Turn the system on one more time to check that the fans are still working--should also see a light or lights glowing on the mobo- check the front of the case real quick to make sure the power LED is glowing also. (All this can be done in just a few seconds).
Turn the system off again. Put the side panel on.
Do the list I sent you to make changes to the BIOS, FDISK and FORMAT etc. IN ORDER!
I may have to leave here for an hour or so (can't help it---sorry), but I'll be standing by tonight.... (cancelled my flight to SD...brother called...the gerbil herd was diagnosed with paw-and-mouth disease...)
BTW: If the unit doesn't power up, and you've checked everything, take a look at the back of the power supply and see if you didn't inadvertently turn off the ps switch--happened to me a few times--it's very easy to do.

OH, AND PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T BE PUTTING THOSE CARDS IN, ETC. WITH THE POWER CORD PLUGGED INTO AN OUTLET....MAKE DAMN SKIPPY THAT CORD IS REMOVED FROM THE SYSTEM WHILE WORKING INSIDE IT---CHECK EVERY TIME BEFORE YOU WORK ON IT.
A couple of "duhs" on me....If you put your old modem in there, how in the *&^% are you gonna communicate back? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Also, along with the other stuff, plug in your speaker(s) so you'll know the soundcard's working---if that's the Soundblaster Live!, then the jack goes into the second hole from the gameport.
Now...after Windows is installed, you're going to have to reboot several times after making certain adjustments---it's a pain in the behind, but be patient; it's worth it. After the initial installation, you'll need to look into Device Manager and list all the "!" you see---we'll walk through each one. Most of them are there simply because Windows can't supply a driver---no prob.
As with the Soundblaster, the SB installation program will take care of those. There's just one "adjustment" of those SB drivers we need to make (disabling the "SB 16 Emulator")---very simple. We'll probably have to install the ATA drivers too--have the floppy that came with the hard drive handy--it should have those drivers on it.
So....got a necessary household chore to do right now---will be back in a little bit for you.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
