Night Train.
Well,...there it is, folks. 2 hrs., 50 minutes (that's with a 15 minute coffee break https://discussions.virtualdr.com/). Completely cannibalized the old, and the new is up and running. I have to say...this case was well engineered. The slide rails worked perfectly. No need for "washers" on the mobo mount--everything matched with no contact with the extra dimples. BTW, there is a mobo grounding screw included with the case (it's a regular mobo screw)--if your mobo has that opening, use it; otherwise don't. You screw it in before you mount the mobo--I had almost forgot about it.
Tested the CPU and case temp.--not sure without further testing, but looks like a drop of about 5-8C. Not bad.
Anyhoo, it's late--time for bed. Nite all.

Welcome back, bistro ! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Time included remove and replace ?
Tell me about the sound proofing. Did you have it in the old case too ? Just wondering if you really notice a big difference?
Night
Morning All, Bistro, did it come up the first time and no operating problems? I didn't see any listed. Sound like you're happy with it so probably weren't any. Later. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

You should be just about be back to room temperature now, right? That is a nice temperature drop, should start snowing in the case before long. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ The advantages of a larger case. No bloody knuckles, shortend assembly time, and you can see what you are doing.

Excellent morning ! http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/net7/coolbrows.gif I been busy this morning guys.
I stopped by and visited with my friend who builds computers and told him what I was doing and getting. He was very impressed with our choices https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Now go ahead and kick me in the butt. Listen to this.... He uses the S500 when he builds and could have gotten me one just like I ordered with the 300W PS for 56.00 no freight ! Oh well... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Oh ! I got to see "the case" ! He opened it up and showed me how the drives slide. Says he swears by the S500. (Also impressed with the Motherboard we picked.)
He also showed me how the processor goes on the Motherboard where the little lever is and all that.
He also has or can get 128MB RAM for 70.00. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
We discussed him getting my other componants for me and he said he'd be tickeled to death ....so that is what I shall do. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Yep...fired the "new" system up and immediately got this:
http://www.zing.com/picture/p33b261d...8.jpg.orig.jpg
Oh well.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Sounds like you hit a winner there,QOH. Always good to have someone right there to help. Take full advantage of it. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ The case is a beaut. I especially like the rolled edges inside--my hands appreciate it. (Still have to be careful---a few sharp edges still there). If ya'll want or need it, as soon as you get the cases, I'll type up a "tour" and throw in a few pointers. One thing I noticed last night was that it wouldn't allow me to slide the two CD-ROMs in all the way on the top two bays--had some indentations that prevented that--not sure why they designed it that way. Oh well..just bent them inwards a bit and had no more trouble. The slide rails worked great--perfect alignment. Was also able to drop My ZIP drive from a large bay into the second 3.5--nice.
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Yes, QOH--that included removal time also. Believe me, once you do it once, the next time will be easier and faster--you'll be intimately familiar with how it all goes together.

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Surrrrre.
So what about the sound proofing....or is that a trade secret ?
Trade Secret.....
No, not really.... Just an experiment. Took a few foam monitor mats--about 1/4 inch thick--and some spray adhesive and lined the sides and top. Took some ventilator filter material (designed for asthmatics) and placed it on the inside over those side air vents to help keep the dust out, but still allow air flow. Had to model the foam matting just so, or else you couldn't close the sides properly. Seems to be fairly quiet--quieter than the old one. The adhesive is good for 110 degrees--that case won't get that hot! Checked the rear exhaust fan after running the system for over an hour--feels like air conditioning--very, very cool. Getting absolutely excellent air flow/cooling as advertised in one of the articles. Think I'll write InWin about it.
Gotta run on an errrand--will check back later.
bistro
Q_O_H sure come out smelling like a rose.
I like the lay out of the case. And the way the HDD frame slides out, nice.
Reading the mb manual now [ASUS A7V ]. Decided to go back to my original pick. And it has the promise card built in. This allows for 4 ATA100 devices and 4 ATA66/33 devices. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ So I can put the cd-rom on one channel, cdrw on the other, Ls120 with the cd-rw and that leaves me with one open.
So, i buy ATA100 harddisk drives and have no problems.

Been checking in every so often to see what's been happening. Looks like proper planning is paying off in hearts. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Be proud of y'all. One big electronics house (Fry's) had an 8 page advertising special on "stuff". Looks as though prices still headed south. Plumb gamazing. Click here.

Train! You're back ! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/Ya got it huh? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I'm so glad I finally went by to see this guy so I could get to see the case. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
He had some floppy and CDROM drives too. Cheap.
Oh greengoose, that's something else my friend mentioned today....not that I want to wait... but he said he'd read where Intel P3's would be dropping by almost half in the first quarter of this year.
bistro, I'm wonderin' if real thin styrofoam would work? It's supposed to be for hot and cold and I know they use those egg cartons for sound proofing. I have some 3M spray adhesive. The spray would probably be better as far as deterioration, but it also might melt the styrofoam https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Maybe double sided tape?
Greengoose!!! Iwant that system!!!
I like the sleek look.... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
QoH: Read one soundgroofing article where the guy used thin styrofoam--got from a popular hardware store. Got a 5-6 decibel reduction. I just wonder about static--seems like styro really likes it. Saw one where he used a material called Dynamat--used to dampen car audio systems. Seemed to work very well--but the stuff is expensive. In either case, are you sure you really wanna get into that right now? Don't you get ahead of yourself now... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/Once that 3M adhesive is on, its a bear to get off.
EDIT: Whoa! Just noticed that "double-sided" tape comment. Absolutely not. Used 3M all-purpose spray adhesive (spray on the mat, not the case)and just for peace of mind, black duct tape to seal the edges (NOT the metallic type!). Also used the black duct tape to route all the fan wires and power button ribbon to make the inside nice and neat.

You are right about styrofoam and static !
hmmmmm....my Brother in law installs car stereos. btw I'm well aware of 3M's adhesive. (....happen to be an Authorized 3M Dealer https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ )
Oh, I been putting up this grinding squalling thing... the new one will probably me a mouse compared to this. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Hey ! greengoose whurd you get a pic of my system !
