Tell you what I have not found so far on the mb's and that is what chips they use for usb. Guess I will send some emails and see if I get answers. I liked the ASUS board best so far. But, after the trouble the viatech usb chips seem to have?? well...
I can go to a pci card, though it might be slower.

Checking in. Qoh, what happened on the power?
As I recall, the power for the jail first is a social responsibility of taxpayers whereas a taxpayer getting cold will work harder to get warm resulting in more taxes so the power can come on faster the next time. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ hee hee https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Now if you believe this one ......
Bistro, Maybe we're not so far off from thinking and a computer responds. The futuristic hardware in the Dick Tracey and Flash Gordon comics were not far off the mark. And that's not that many years ago.
Train, What were we talking about? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Have been reducing our component data, comparing, etc. and learning more every minute. Fascinating - and there is no end?

I am lucky with my electrical source.
2. Narrowed it down to 2 makers of motherboards. Niether say what chips are in the usb.
3. With sdtech's help I will get the Power supply staightened out.
4. I have read enough on mb info that my eyes almost crossed. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

bistro , have you ever done this http://www.webdev.net/orca/new_disk1.htm
Been a few questions lately about it.

Sure , you could do it like that---but it's risky. Better to use a 3rd party app like Disk Copy or Norton Ghost.
Concerning Via-based mobo's--it appears to me that there have been an inordinate amount of postings in other forums from folks having problems with those. That's all I'll say about them. Just an observation.

Thank you bistro https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

For those of you with VIA Chip questions, this came directly from HP's website!
"HP JetDirect J4135A Connectivity Card - Data Corruption Using VIA USB Host Controller"
"ISSUE: When using the VIA USB Host Controller chipset on a Windows 98 system, certain files may experience data corruption."
"SOLUTION: Install an add-on PCI USB card (e.g. by Entrega or ADS) and try using those ports."

Morning All, VirDr finally is up I see. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Morning all,
I had trouble too greengoose. If it wasn't one thing it was another. I'm here. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
sdtechraised a good point there--sparked my memory--the two main problems I've sen with those Via chipsets is as he mentioned, the USB situation and problems with the 4in1 drivers--both related. Seen enough of those to, in my opinion, warrant avoiding those mobos altogether. Seen comparitively little to none concerning Intel chipsets.
-
I feel pretty good after reading about y'alls problems. Mine don't seem so bad. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
sdtech, I thought you listed a list of components in OpDe somewhere.
Will the real Bistro stand up. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Later

Gotta go to the city today, so I have a map printed out with directions to the MicroCenter !
After all, it is on my way. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
EDIT:
bistro,
They are talking about video cards here.
I didn't realize there were going to be so many different models to choose from. Do some only go with AMD and some only with Intel ?
Or is it just more features, newer models ?

Train,
I just talked to Compaq tech support and they said, "If a larger Power Supply will fit, go ahead and use it." So, it looks like a physical size question now!
