Thanks. Placed the order. Now to wait for it!
Ok i was just about to start this (i have a whole day to do it) but i am stalled at the very first step: add/remove. In the Add/Remove program, what do i look for?
I found Intel(R) Extreme Graphic Driver . Is that the one i should remove?
Yes, that's the one you want to uninstall.
OK i am on another computer for a few minutes.
I uninstalled the video driverl.
I installed the physical card.
I got to the BIOS menu.
Train says "so the first thing you do is boot to the BIOS [called setup also] and disable the on board video." Yet Photolady says "all you'll need to do is remove the drivers for the onboard via Add/Remove then shut the computer down, unplug all electric from the computer and install the card. Then install the drivers."
Which one do i do? If i disable the onboard in the BIOS, will that disable the one i just tried to install or if it is not completely installed (the driver i mean), will this be ok?
Look in the BIOS and see if you can disable it first.
Some motherboard just adding the video card will disable the onboard.
I always check.
Checking on the BIOS Advanced tab, i see Onboard Video Memory (set to 8MB) and Primary Video Adapter (set to PCI). I dont see where to disable a video card (i might not be looking in the right place either)
Integrated Peripherals is normally where I find where to enable/disable on board stuff.
If it isw not listed there, then you maybe OK then.
OK dokie... on my way to install the new driver! I'll let you know.
I was coming but Train beat me here. :D
Like he said, if there is no place on your BIOS, and it seems there isn't, to turn off your onboard, you should be good to go.
OK i got a little challenge now. I installed the driver and it said it installed correctly. Now, my display has changed, on the monitor. I tried to readjust the settings (assuming it went back to default after the installation and everything was HUGE on it), but what it did was changed all the colors (like 8 color format or so), the icons are still HUGE, and no more cursor. Hummm
I tried, with Alt-tab to reach the Control Panel so i can get to the display but that window does not show up (although the tab is visible in the bottom bar). Where did i go wrong??
OK . i think i know part of my problem: the window is using only about one tenth of the surface of my tablet so everything is like in the top left corner. So, the windows for the properties or the control panel are probably in a lower or right-er portion so i cannot see them. How could i reach them??? How could i even make them full screen so i can grab them?
Did you try getting to video settings via "right click the desktop, chose Properties and then the Settings tab?
I don't understand what you mean by "tablet". Could you explain please.
I have a graphic tablet and just as for the mouse, i was not getting any cursor so i thought they didn't work but i realise that it is like the monitor is a HUGE plasma screen tv and my screen only shows the top left corner of it, so i am struggling to access the display properties in a visible area.
I think you'll need an actual mouse to make this work. You could try booting to safe mode and see if you can change settings in there. Also check under Advanced in Settings, make sure your video card is being seen.
