It's confusing me too, because you can get Windows XP CDs for the thing... Or you can access the factory recovery on the hard disk, which is a separate thing.
It appears that the Compaq disk was used to run a chkdsk, the factory restore was run off the hard drive because the hard drive based recovery can do a non-destructive recovery which doesn't format the hard drive. This makes sense, because the Compaq CDs will format the drive and return the computer to factory condition.. Which would absolutely work as the problem is not mechanical. It also makes sense because the CD will look to the hard drive for the factory recovery partition or it will display a "factory recovery partition not found" message.
........unless the XP CD recovery does not delete the old partition and it's the partition itself that's demolished.
And yes, the recovery for XP is F10.. Not F11 as stated.
When you use Windows XP CD, then, often, you have to play with drivers. If you use recovery CD, or recovery partition, you're all set (except for pre-installed garbage).

That's the thing. There are at least two different kinds of Compaq recovery disks. The first has the Recovery Console option, the second is just a recovery disk set that only gives you the option of factory recovery, not the standard XP Home options.
It SEEMS that they have the first, as they've accessed the recovery console from the XP disk.

Recovery Console may come pre-installed, or it can be installed from Windows CD, or even downloaded as separate .iso file ready for creating bootable CD.

No kidding, it's a Windows feature. I fail to see your point. What I do see is you consistently ignoring documentation.
What I told you is that they're talking about two different disk sets. I'm not sure if you're just not reading the whole posts, selectively reading them or what.
It's the same as Dell or any other. Dell even provides "Dell recovery disks" that are simply Windows XP disks with the Dell screenprinting. They're burning them en masse from an image and screenprinting their own CD labels. Compaq does the same thing. Like this set here:

The only thing I can think of is that because the original post is so confusing, it's making ongoing dialogue confusing as well. Is my presentation somehow confusing? Am I not making myself clear enough somehow? Am I presenting it in some kind of incoherent manner?
However, considering your ongoing denial of facts, insisting you're right despite the blatantly obvious evidence before you.. Putting your posts in that context I'm REALLY not sure which of the above it is.
I'm really not sure how much more I can do. I give you links, pictures, downloads, online factory documentation which even includes the errors stated in the original post with the precise fix that mirrors what I've stated and you STILL sit there and go "nuh uh.. It's a virus".

If you don't understand the difference between Recovery Console, and Recovery CD, then I can't help you. Amen.
If you don't understand that the first CD in some Compaq recovery CD sets are simply an XP CD with the Compaq branding on them, thus giving you a Recovery Console option when you start them the same as any XP CD, there's not much more I can do. That's what I've been trying to tell you.
I mean, it's like trying to talk to a brick wall. Forgive me for getting so frustrated.

And just in case, just to make certain that you get it (or at least making my best effort to make certain).... that CD is part of a set of recovery disks.
Honestly, I just don't understand. There are so many people that think they are the be all and end all of computer knowledge. Even when you show them they're wrong, shower them with evidence, they still sit there with this blank stare and go "nuh uh". We have this guy in town who's like that.. Actually several.. but this one guy goes around telling everyone that a P4 is faster than a Core2Duo because of the clock speed.
We have another one that insists that anyone that thinks anything is better than Norton is an idiot. Another that thinks they've got the only answer for networking. Several more that think the only way to fix something is to buy another one.
This industry is enough to drive you insane sometimes. You get people stuck in their little bubble, refusing to admit they're wrong, confusing the unsuspecting user, making them think we're all nuts, even confusing experts. What is it with people, especially computer geeks, that they can't admit when they're wrong? And why on earth do they have to spend so much time trying to prove otherwise?
The time I've wasted, just demonstrating to one person that they've totally missed the mark.. and them STILL not getting it. Like... Seriously. Is it an ego thing? Is it a respect thing? Is it making up for something missing in their real life? Or is it just a cranial anal insertion thing? What on earth is it? Especially on forums.. People yapping on and on without having a clue what they're talking about.
Blah.. No wonder the public thinks we're no better than car mechanics.
