broni and jdc. have u checked my HJT log? issit virus or malware causing this problem?
Your HijackThis log looked clean.
Did you try the "sfc /scannow"?
Did you try the Repair install?

As Train said, you may need to reinstall Windows.
As a last resort, you could try creating a new user account, and the log in using that new account. Make sure to make it an administrator account. It is posssible, though unlikely, that you have a corrupt user profile.

Well, time to save what you would hate to lose and start from scratch again :(
no other ways? i hate reformatting.
So do I, but had to do it anyway yesterday to 2 laptops.
And the desktop is not going to be touched until they come up with the OS cd.
