The Virtual Dr movie thread

Yup, those are the films I'm looking forward to watch on the big screen - very blockbustery!

Pirates of the Carribean 3
Spiderman 3
Harry Potter 5
Die Hard 4

There's something comical about the digits in these titles - I mean there isnt even a first sequel amongst that lot.

Other films in the more distant future to look forward to are:

The Golden Compass (1st of two parts of the terrific His Dark Materials trilogy - thats right, the trilogy is split into two...)

Ratatoui - New pixar film - this one is about a rat who lives in paris and has very high standards of what food he eats - trailers are hilarious - and in my opinion, pixar has never failed to deliver (guys who brought us Toy Story, Findoing Nemo, The Incredibles)

The Simpsons movie - I wonder if a full length feaure can posibly carry the momentum of a rollercoaster laugh a minute half hour episode - we'll see but even if its slower - I cant see it being less than good at least.


And even further ahead:

Indiana Jones 4
jurassic park 4
Shrek 3
Oceans 13 (actually not looking forward to this one much but had to list it for the sheer boldness of its title sequencing)

okay the numbers at the end of these titles is beyond surreal.... I dont think I will find the Jaws 12 joke in Back to te Future 2 funny anymore!

Theres actually plenty more I'm looking forward to (being a bit of movie buff) - but in the end its often the smaller less anticipated films that tend to win our hearts - sometimes.

Nice thread - a little digression from the main themes of the forum is refreshing - sigh... back to my hard drive problem - why the heck is it not being recognised anymore....

You didn't mention A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc and Cars.

Although personaly I thought that The Incredibles was only ok and Cars was kind of boring so hopefully they'll pick up their game again with Ratatouille

I was just listing my most favourite pixar movies but I agree Cars is the weakest entry by far but it is still a good pixar film with a misfire in the storyline concept and pacing. But they are such an innovative company since their early eighties short films (which are actually more fun to watch than Cars!) - and are not afraid to continue that innovation (although risky) with each film.

I didnt know about Toy Story 3, definitely adding that to my Most Anticipated :D

Oh I also forgot to mention Harry Potter 6 and 7 !

I'm definitely going to the theater for Shrek 3 and Spiderman 3. Won't be able to wait 'til they're on DVD. Hmm, might have to add Pirates 3 to that mix...

Just saw the trailer for Ratatouille, looks very funny, I'll have to watch it when it comes out. :cool:

Yeah, Ratatouille does look good. Pixar just keeps coming up with such great animated films with more humanity, life, entertainment, laughs and interesting storylines than many "real" films these days.

Amongst the animation genre.....I liked both Shreks, The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.....

To be honest....the movies made for children seem to be more entertaining than most of the stuff made for adults these days.

Just think you could have seen Toy Story (1995) when you were 10 and then in 2010 when your are 25 you could be taking your own kids.

I agree Maxx, one of my all time favourites is Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas - pity I missed out on seeign the 3D version.

Corpse Bride is good too.

My boys 7 and 3 love these both aswell.

Saving Private Ryan

Forget the kids, Toy Story is made for me :D

Nightmare before Christmas is right up there on my best list too. I was dissapointed in the Corpses Bride though mainly becasue the music didnt hit the mark as much as Nightmare did.

What does everyone think of the recent surge of 3D films hitting the screen such as Monster house, Nightmare before xmas and even Superman Returns? I know The 3D technology is different between IMAX and normal screens but I have only seen IMAX films in 3D (not including the 3D shows in Orlanda theme parks out of which the Amazing Spiderman is simply a mind blowing experience). Anyone seen both types? Which is better?

I love the IMAX but I dont like the idea of live action blockbuster films shown in 3D. Superman Returns 3D segments was jarring for me - the effects looked good but it made the characters look like cartoons somehow - this spoiled my enjoyment of the film. I much prefer watching a short documentary on space, undersea or animated in 3D. Polar Express is my favourite.

Haven't seen one yet but I'm not sure how well the 3D glasses would work since I wear regular glasses. If they're uncomfortable or annoying it would likely spoil the film for me.

IMAX 3D glasses are very large and made to warp around spectacles. I am a contact lens wearer but I have worn spectacles with 3D glasses on too and had no problems. So go and have fun with a 3D film :)

I didn't like Polar Express at all.

Saving Private Ryan is one I have to watch whenever it's on - even though I've seen it countless times. Same with Castaway and Titanic.

Saving Private Ryan certainly took the war film genre to a new level of realism to a point that you are almost feel like you are in it (especially on the big screen). Not much of a storyline but its the journey of the soldiers and the powerful yet subtle perfomances of the leads that made it an oscar winner. As for Castaway - what a great film - I cannot imagine anyone else but Hanks (my favourite actor) to keep us so transfixed on someone stranded on an island for 3/4 of screen time - and only Zemekis could pull off a trick like that.

Saving Private Ryan is a film I have never watched, but I really want too.

I watched The Shawshank Redemption for the first time last year, fantastic film. It's a film I can watch again and again.
