Margaritas...MMMM! They don't have to be frozen for me to like 'em!

There aren't too many people that I know of that like Winesapp apples, some say a bit too tart, but they are my favorite by far. I like the crunch. Graves Mountain in Syria, VA grows 'em and they are delicious!
I lived in Richmond, Va. for a few years...my two children were born in Richmond....where is Syria??
ooops...didn't quite do that quote just right...sorry, GettaGripp....need to practice that some more...
Close enough Steve :D
And here is Syria http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=Syria,+VA
I too have noticed the decrease in quality of produce over the years, what with all the genetic altering going on and artificial fertilizers being used.......got some at a so-called "farmer's market" the other day....I dunno, but is sweet corn supposed to glow in the dark?
Thanks, C.B....now why didn't I think of that...."Doh!!"
<~~~~ Google Queen :p
Hi Steve,
CB was nice enough to show you the link to Syria. (Thanks CB) I don't live there, but have camped there before with horses - well yeah people, too. ;) It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and they grow apples and have a cannery there - they sell apple butter, etc. etc. Beautiful place. They also have a lot of cows...my last horse did not like cows.
I'm in Hampton, I'm sure you know where that is since you lived in Richmond before. A friend of mine had a farm in Richmond, but has since moved to an even bigger farm near Charlottesville.
Chicken & Carrots got to be the worst of todays food.
As a kid I ate fresh chicken daily processed that day by family never frozen most all summer long. Now I wont eat chicken unless it is home grown& cooked(makes me sick)
Carrots were ate fresh and tasted like candy also. Now days they taste like wood
mmmm apple butter :D
..... carrots used to be fresh and crisp and sweet.... now you can almost bend them in half before they break
Richmond...Charlottesville...beautiful country...I miss it. But these foothills of the Ozarks reminds me a lot of that area. I work in Batesville, which was built along the White River...just like Richmond, but considerably smaller ( about 12,000 population).
Many folks around here have vegetable gardens....lots of people sell produce out of the back of their trucks. I need to start buying fresh stuff from them....maybe this thread will inspire me to do that....
Hate to get out of the food go-round,but one of the nastiest things quality wise on the market today imho are automobiles. All these safety ratings and crash tests you hear about and see on TV car ads are crap! Don't believe that? Ask a cop or tow truck driver who deals with 'real life' accidents day after day.
The main reason I keep my ol' faithful '72 Ford F-250 Camper Special Pick m' up truck. Now 'that' vehicle is made wholly from real heavy gauge steel with no plastic/fibreglass in the body construction at all. No, it doesn't get the highest gas mileage, but even with todays prices safety vs. gas mileage? I'll live with it.
Bought him back in '92 and completely re-built the power train, brakes and all myself. Runs like a top and is completely trustworthy. And now, he's become a classic. Could care less about staying ahead of the "Jones" family. You know,,the ones who buy a new car and throw it back to the dealer every year or two cause they just "have" to have the 'newest'? Or they get clobbered on the interstate and 'total' the car(and very likely members of the family too)
Of course the Auto Mfg's could care less!
End of rant(for this time)
What about those great 5mph bumpers...what a joke!! What vehicle is ONLY doing 5mph when it hits something or it gets hit!!
My Dad is from around Charlottesville area - Alberene. Beautiful around there, love the mountains and streams. Same friend that lived in Richmond, bought 80 acres near there. Log cabin, pond. One day...just one day - guess I'll have to win the lottery first - errr, maybe I should start playing it. :o
Truck farmers - yeah, you can get some really good produce from them. REAL tomatoes, fresh corn, and soon, collards! (I'm already imagining how many people are making the "yuck" face over that!)
Our third vehicle is an old '78 Ford pick up. It's a bit rough (and that's being polite) but it's easy to work on, and tough. Sure does need some cosmetic work...but it runs. In fact, pretty good. Doesn't have A/C though, which sucks. Gas mileage...hmm, it sure can't pass up a gas station.
