Ok so in WinMe I'm blocking ad.doubleclick.net which is where the flash ads seem to be coming from, but in Win2000 I'm not and eveything seems to be fine.
Weird.
Maybe the Flash I'm using isn't up to date in Win2000.
I can't block them at work as they seem to be cached somewhere on the network because blocking them in the host file on my machine has no effect.

While thinking about whether the problem is related to page rendering, I see that those lines under the VDr banner remain in Mozilla 1.75 after the page finishes loading, while they're gone in IE and FF. Probably doesn't mean anything in itself, though, since FF is all that crashes.
Then again, who knows? Over the last few years some sites have become more and more needlessly bloated, never mind the "enhancement" of Flash, which I loathe.
-
Are you talking about the swirl effect ?
It stays there for me in Fx (<== read this is how Firefox should be abbreviated, somewhere on the Firefox site).
It's this image http://discussions.virtualdr.com/ico...img/bglogo.jpg

Oops I see the lines you are referring to in your screen shot.
And yes sites that use Flash are more annoying than anything else nothing flash about them.
Edit: Wow those lines how did I miss that flashing effect (argh flash again) but they remain there for me once the page is complete.

I take it you're seeing that color shift while the page loads?
That Sun "hell" ad is a .gif, by the way. As you can see, it doesn't render correctly, cropped on the bottom.

Forget my previous post. The ad's in both Flash and a .gif

Definately Flash related on VDr
As soon as I disable flashblock and restart the browser I get the crash within about a minute of visiting VDr.
Start Fx, enable Flashblock and restart Fx and no problems.
-
Gotta be more to it though. I've been trying and haven't gotten a crash yet, with 1.5. Maybe it has to do with the flash version loaded? I have an outdated one.
-
Well I managed to crash Fx by opening as many tabs as posiible, got to about 130 odd when it crashed and that was with Flashblock enabled.
I'm using the latest Flash as far as I know.
As I previously said though it doesn't happen at home on WinMe because I'm blocking ad.doubleclick.net in my hosts file or in Win2000 but I'm not blocking anything.
At work on WinNt it's Ok with with Flashblock enabled but disable it and bang I crash within minutes.
But it is only on VDr.
-
In fact I just went to the Creative Labs MP3 player forum and opened 200 tabs (threads) with no issue.
-
200 tabs? Have mercy! There's no screen real estate left to see anything, is there? :D
I got the crashes with only one window opened. Since mine crashes before anything can load enough to give even a glance at what the problem is, I'm not going to be any help, so am giving up working the puzzle.
(By the way, I have the latest Flash player, version 8 something, the one they put out a couple of weeks ago because of some flaw hackers could use).
-
Well I guess the thing to do is for me to upgrade the flash player i have and see if I start getting crashes. At least then we'll know what is causing it. Nix, can you verify the vers. of Flash you have on the box that doesn't crash FF?
I really hadn't wanted to do that since there were rumors of Adopey packaging spyware with the player, once they took over MM, which they've just done
-
I know I just did a clean install of Win2000 after I converted the partition from FAT32 to NTFS and was left with the 512kb cluster size.
I can't remember if I updated flash or if it is the version that gets installed with Win2000 Pro.
How do I check what version of flash is installed ?
-
Ok at work it's 8,0,22,0
Btw JoJo did you try thr flashblock extension.
-
I forgot I still had the Flash download in a folder. It's version 8.0.22.0
Funny how they're so ashamed of Flash that it's not in Add/Remove. Can't say I blame them. :D
EDIT; Yeah, Nix, I have the flashblock extension and adblock extension as well. I don't have any problems unless I disable them both.
