just respect her wishes.If her parents and family would just respect her wishes and stop thinking of themselves. Her parents are not thinking of theirselfs they are thinking of their daughter who they love.
If you want to get put down when you get to old and or sick or what ever that is your problem.Man does not give life GOD does or should he take life,only if that person should take life then we have the right to take theirs. I am not going to play GOD or going to argue with him.

DELTREE: When an animal or a person is in such pain, pain meds don't always work. In the case of my dog, I had done all that I could and she was beginning to suffer. Her quality of life was going downhill. All she wanted to do was lay down with a pained expression on her face and away from contact with anyone. Absolutely not how she normally acted. No doubt in my mind she was in severe pain. Loved her too much for that to continue. Everyone, however, is entitled to their own opinion, and mine is that continuing to let an animal or a person suffer is cruel. Again, that's my opinion. I strongly believe in quality of life, not just quantity. I really wish it (euthanasia) was that easy for people - in the right circumstances. I don't like the fact that Terri is having to starve. I wish there was an easier way. It doesn't seem fair that murderers, rapists, etc. get an "easier way out" than Terri will. I don't mean this to sound cold, but with her not having much of a brain left, perhaps she doesn't feel pain? I hope that is the case.

It isn't up to Terri's parents to take her home. It was ultimately up to her husband, but he is abiding by her wishes. Until I looked into it more, I had been wondering WHY wouldn't the husband turn her over to her parents, but after learning more about the medical side of Terri and the fact that she really is basically brain dead, I understand that he is just doing what Terri wanted him to do. What does he stand to gain by NOT giving her to her parents?

I have asked myself the "what if I was in Terri's shoes" question, and I KNOW I don't ever want to be like that. I don't believe it's quality of life.

Sometimes, we just have to agree to disagree.

i certainly respect everybodys opinion on this, and i could probably understand more if she was on life support and it was being taken off, but do we just because a person cant take care of themselves condem them to die, i know a lot of kids that are born with diseases that keep them from having a normal life, if a child is born with a disease like that and we know they will never be able to take care of themselves or be able to learn or communicate or be productive in any way does that make them a vegetable that we let die from like of water.

Why is it a problem, I beleive it's a realistic view of life and the burden that you could potentially become on others when you end up in this state, be it old, sick, comatose, vegative etc etc.

I have always told my wife that if I ever ended up in a coma or vegative state for what ever reason - I would want to die.

I am an insulin dependant diabetic and if I ever feel that my quality of life has severely degraded due to above causes or I'm becoming to much of a burden on others, I will simply administer myself an extremely large dose of insulin, assuming I'm capable of doing so.

Sorry but that's too simplistic a view on things for me. I guess it's why I don't believe in god or any other religious deity, to much blind faith for me.

Oh me oh my, the sky is falling, the sky is falling because not everyone believes in the same things I do. The world is going to heck in a hand basket because my traditional values are not shared by everyone else. Why can't they just think like me?

Yes, common sense suffered a violent death this past November. We can only hope for her resurrection 4 years from now.

An alzheimers patient certainly isn't living a quality life and my grandmother had to be spoon fed and had to have her diaper changed by a nurse or aide quite regularly before she passed but we certainly didn't consider starving her to death and refusing to give her water. The same with my sisters mother-in-law, no one considered starving her just because she was no longer productive and could do nothing for herself. Neither knew any of us or even acknowledged our presence and were not in comas. God took them both in his time. I think Terri has a will to survive that has kept her alive for 15 years. It appears that one would have to have a will to survive to have lasted this long. And who know's for sure if her husband had not withheld the therapy all these years she might have come out of this but I don't think he wanted her to cause then she might have told the truth as to what actually happened and then he might be the one facing a death penalty. He's the one that insisted on the feeding tube to begin with so no one could work with her on eating.

My father on the other hand was on life support, a respirator, that was breathing for him and making his heart beat, but his liver stopped and his kidneys were failing so when the VA ordered the disconnect it was almost instantaneous death. He wasn't starved to death. So if a Judge can order you disconnected from a feeding tube why can't the judge also order a shot or something like they do when they execute a man on death row? It still seems more humane than withholding food and water for what may take two weeks.

I dread to think what the next step will be. Kill all newborns that have problems at birth, or those premies that struggle so hard for the first six month of their life. Maybe all the alzheimer patients. Just convine a judge and it's done. Or better yet write DNR on their chart when no one is looking and it's done.

Only God has the power to give or take a life. Where does this judge get off wielding his power over someone elses life? Judges, in this country, have far too much power. I think it's time to overhaul our judicial system and give the power back to the people. This women is being culled out, and killed, because someone thinks she does fit in, or is no longer useful. Hitler culled out 6 million Jews because HE thought they didn't fit in. Is this were the US is headed? Will judges cull out and condemn people because they are brain damaged, retarded or handi capped in some way. God help us.

The people already have the power.
Judges are either voted in directly by the people, or appointed by politicians who were voted in by the people. Key word being "vote".
Like it or not, the "people" have created the monster and only the people can destroy it.

He didn't pull the tube so technically the hospital would be guilty.

Despite all the media coverage I think the whole thing will end up paling into insignificance when the Pope passes away.

I totally agree with you. I worked in a nursing home with geriatric & AIDS patients for 5 years, and my sister is a nurse so we've both seen this happen to others more than once. Unfortunately it's not uncommon. Thousands, or even tens of thousands, of people get their feeding tubes pulled each year. Having seen what happens to a person first hand, from 18 to 80 years old, I can tell you that it's absolutely horrible. Eyes wide, gasping for every breath, and looking like one of the bodies shown in the concentration camps. It's gruesome and unbearable to watch. Animals are treated better when it's obvious that they are suffering and have no chance of surviving. I grew up on a farm with many animals and we'd put them down with a shotgun to the head when it was time. I'd rather be "put down" in that manner that slowly die a horrible death.
Like imadreamer said, the family should have the choice to have a shot administered to humanely end their loved ones life. If PETA put the same effort into Human rights as they do with animals we might have some laws in place by now. (they're even against fishing because they consider it "inhumane". Pisses me off, but that's another issue) In any event, I hope something gets done now. Maybe her death will someday help the tens of thousands of people that go through the same thing every year by stirring up some serious debates on the subject. Who knows? There's so much crap going on in the world it's easy to get distracted by something else. I hope this isn't one drama that's so easily forgotten.

I hope it isn't forgotten easily either. Did you hear the latest? Now her husband wants to have her cremated, which is not acceptable in the catholic faith, and then not tell her family when and where he will bury their daughter. It just seems like one last cruel act.

i read on cnn that the court has ordered him to tell the family where the ashes will be placed and i think that is the first time the court hasnt sided with him

years ago when he tried to murder terri.

he worked in a hospital.[ ie: easy access to meds]. i know how he did it, but i will not say for fear of any copycats out there.

what he did to her 15 years ago this year, he
might not get away with it.

that's what michael is afraid of, and has been afraid of,
and why he desperately did not/could not let the parents have custody.
