I just want to thank everybody who has participated so far. This is the best feedback about VDr that I've ever seen, and these are all incredibly insightful and absoluely invaluable comments.
Keep it coming folks, please :)

Yes this is absolutely incredible, I just love hearing from all of the old time members, how ya all doin. I more than anyone would like to see this place become the vibrant place it was a few years back. This place is my second home & I will do all I can to make any improvements I possibly can.
Kat Mac, how are ya, good to see you & thank you for your insight, great post. Your reference to the OT forum, this was an area that as you know, being a long time member was something that we just did not want to get into because of some of the things you outlined in your post. We did however eventually give-in because of the overwelming requests we were getting from the members, and me of course trying to make everyone happy pushed the powers to be for it & got it done. All in all I think the members enjoy it, it has not been a major problem so far.
We have had some great people come & go I dont think it was an issue they had with our forums but that they felt they needed to move on. Im sure some of it was that certain new posters would come here & ask a question get thier problem solved & not come back with at least a thank you to the people that helped them & I know personally that this can be frustrating & sometimes makes you think why bother.
Anyway I want to thank all of you who have participated so far, keep it coming. BJ ;)
Wow, this was great to read. I really don't know what to say other than I have been a long time lurker, very minimal commenter. The reason for this is because if I have any technical problems I simply do a search for it in the forums. I can't say how many times this site has come in handy. A few years ago I did post a few questions, and they were always quickly answered in a friendly way.
There are times when I just sit and read posts, learning a little bit at a time from all the helpful people. I thoroughly enjoy this site, and would hate to see it disappear.
i havent been a member here as long as a lot of people so dont know how it used to be back then, but i am here everyday from about 5:00 pm until late. i dont know nearly as much as most people but i try to participate when i can. i personally dont have a lot of negative things to say about the forum as i have learned a lot from here.
i think the rules are fair and have never had a problem sticking to them except one time that a mod slapped my wrist for posting a link to a crack site to help someone with a password issue, even got a stickie about it that day but that was my fault and i opoligized for it. i dont go to many other forums although i am a member of several it seems i am always here.
i wont get off on the lounge because we were asked not to by sparks. he knows how i feel.
so i probably have not made any statement of how to improve this site because i am ok with it, and really dont know why we would be loosing that many members.

You refer to other more credible sites
Sorry about my English. :)Quote:
There are a lot more credible sites now
My meaning was that, in my opinion, the number of credible sites has increased, so VDr has more competition. I certainly did not mean to say that VDr is not a credible site. In my opinion, it still is one of the best for the great majority of PC users.
Concerning references on Google, it is true that I rarely get a Google reference to VDr when I search these days, even though that is exactly how I found VDr in the first place and also how I am finding other credible sites recently.
I have always been treated courteously on VDr, and with the possible exception of one mod, I want to make it clear that I am not at all unhappy with VDr. I was just offering some thoughts in response to your first post. And it has been very interesting to read the posts from others that it has generated.
just to add to what i was saying if we have some all timers that have quit coming here what would be wrong with sending them an email and inquiring why they have left or just a little memo inviting them back.
Hi All, it is Me..Don't run away now!...Only just seen this post and that was because I always read what DRMDJ has to say, even when he does go on n on n baffles me..LOL
VirtualDR was found by accident by me a few years ago..DR caught my attention as it be my Initials!!
I needed answers to some questions that most 5 year old could answer..lol but me being Thick n slow, needed VDR...
To me VDR was the Best, to Me, VDR is still the Best, but I don't ask or need lots of answers these days because YOU LOT have Helped me 1000%..
I pop on here most days and READ Loads of Threads in nearly All the Forums, except one or two that Don't interest me...
In the Early days, Win95/98/ME had ALL the Probs, Newbies like me Needed ALL the Help from you Good Guys n Gals, n by Golly did we need the Help!!....Then Along came XP with some probs, but not as much as before...The Most probs these days is with SP1/2/3..YUK i hate it!!lol
THANKS to your Threads where you explained how to build a new PC from scratch, I DiD build my own, n succeeded, with a good few muckups in the process...I still crave to Learn n despite all the other sites that have sprung up over the years, I Still Come here because to me, this is the BEST..
I might not ask many questions, got fewer threads here than some newbies, lol, but as said earlier, I still frequent here one hell of a lot...
Don't know nowt about any tentions between folks, i tend not to butt in...
I do know that one or two of ya have your own sites going that are very good, I do read the threads but have not joined...
I do know that You ALL Do a Very Great Job here, PLEASE Keep up the Good Work..APPRECIATED one Hell of a Lot this way..
Not going to mention names, well some, DRMDJ, Supersparks,Ridgerunner,Welshjim, Oh Golly n many many more of you,(you know who you are)! Because of you I can now put a PC together...
Now Then, How are you going to Liven this Site Up!! Not Got a Clue my Friends, You lot are the Brainy ones, so as useual, I'll leave that up to you n know that you'll do a Good Job..
Whatever Happens I'll still be here reading 99% of the Threads most days....Will even ask a few questions, probably be repeats, but that will keep you on your toes...
EveryOne Else has said it all, so I'll now sign off till later....(As U all sigh with relief!).....
P.S---Lots of the Old Sites have gone for Good, but VDR is still here, so VDR has got to be Good....
This has been a most excellent read. I suppose I can raise my hand as one of the guilty ones who haven't been hanging around as much as I use to, but I still peek in every now and then and sometimes add my 1.5ยข... ;) As far as I can see, it is still a dynamic and indispensable forum. I wouldn't get too shook up over membership "drops". From what I've seen, other forums are pretty much in the same boat; they have their slack times and busy times. Membership numbers will rollercoaster. As long as VDR has the quality people that are here, it will do just fine.
Now...as far as "comraderie", just do what DrMDJ did when he first came here....he sent me a PM demanding I be his friend and agree with everything he posts and he started sending me 50 bucks every month. We've been good friends ever since.
BTW, MDJ....the check is late this month....what gives?
BIG JOHN: Yep...you were right. "Bistro can't stay serious even for 10 minutes"......
^Thats my old pal^ Good to see ya, sure miss that great sence of humor of yours. :D BJ
Hi, to get your password in you have to tab twice, unique however this is part of the appeal. I am privy to the latest spate of so called unrest. I never left VDR it left me. For some reason I still do not understand, I was for a time a restricted member. If there was something that I did or said in a post then I cannot for the life of me point to it , nor was it ever pointed out to me. Many have indeed left, yet I didn't and I still consider this a premium forum.
The nature of posted questions will always vary so I have in the past commented that this place is becoming boring,That statement by it's nature is a personal observation and may not reflect others opinions.
I have always found the nature or atmosphere here friendly, though why it should be promoted as anything else is beyond me. I have no ego to feed and cannot understand why a service for free forum should attract such tensions.
No doubt it has caused some people to feel they were not appreciated, this then becomes a challenge for the Administration of this board to address. The good Doctor is to be commended for his insightful perspective on this subject by raising this issue, a survey is not the answer. The answer lies in how you value your membership and treat them accordingly, we are after all only here to help.
Jenae, you did fail to mention that we had a private conversation regarding this matter & that I apologized to you. Your membership was only restricted for one day. I dont know what else I could have done to make amends to you. You have always been a good member here & if a public apology is needed to further show my remorse than here it is. BJ
Well I be, the good DRMDJ finally used some words I could undersatand. Talking to this guy is like being on a hidden level of the Matrix.
You have started a most wonderful thread and have gotten people to talk. I congratulate you and will continue to follow along.
(You really owe Bistro 50 bucks for this month?) :D :D :D
Well that took some browsing but it looks good feedback too from all those who have posted https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
What can I add that has not already been said....
Competition in fierce in computer forums such as this one and over the years since its inception there has been an explosion in similar forums [Jupiter media also carries several of its own] so curb appeal seems one way of attracting and keeping members be it through say yearly changes to standard display or the provision of say extras such as interactive member gaming.
On the point of quality and responses to queries I personally think this forum provides it in buckets with none of the childish behaviour I see at other forums. It is a sensible and significant resource for computer users across the globe 24/7 and has excellent free support from a mostly unapreciacted member and moderator base each with a character of their own not some grey faceless individual who charges you premium rate for support.
I must mention I do hate to see 0 responses disappear of the first couple of pages and try to answer requests when/where I can [if I can within my limited technical ability] to at least show that there is indeed an interested party somewhere on the globe for those who are lost or in need of advice.even if I only have a few minutes to spare and it is only a link at least it is of some guidance until someone with more expertise can respond plus it stops the post slipping away from general view.
Re post counting it makes little difference to me if its on or off but as happened at another JM site this can cause controversy so I`ll not go there.
As to the technical aspect of PCs this is no longer a dark art i.e. win 3x and many members build their own systems at some time or other so some self knowledge is usually learned early on for these people and given the advantages of a good search engine a large proportion of problems can be resourced with a good chance of finding an answer somewhere out there.
The hard part is getting those out there to come in here.
I have posted only a couple of questions...I've gotten immediate replies, ALL of which have helped. In the future, I will respond to any question that I can answer. This is not a social gathering but rather a help forum. MANY personal views, MANY personal opinions, MANY (forum) rules, MUCH ADVICE!...Do you want to know what to do when you get the dreaded BSOD?, when a virus obliterates your hard drive?...COME HERE, listen to the advice, thank the members, give back when you can.
For sure. The first time someone says 'Thanks! That solved my problem' the feeling is great. Then even after the first time, it still feels great to know that someone listened to what you had to say, and had the decency to come back and thank you.Quote:
give back when you can.
And also, this the only forum I know that has 'Happy Birthday' posts! :D
