Its a pity the user name has to be a minimum of 6 charatcers, I had to use Nix231.
Someone at work had 50 to give away and just sent me one.
EVERY "active" user hasd 50 invites. i have a 100 with my 2 accounts.
gmail now only requires a e-mail address.
If they give everyone 1000Mb of storage they must have some pretty decent servers set aside.
Even if say 1 million people were currently using it and only had 1Mb each thats 1,000,000Mb.
I have 50 invites!! And my space use is only up to 4MB!! Eek, how am I going to dispose of these things. Let's see, guess I could offer them to everyone on all the Inquirer copy desks where I work . . . hmmmmm . . . they should just about go around for 60 people in that many of them probably wouldn't care (there are relatively few computer geeks there too, even though we work on computers!!).
What a great marketing gimmick Google came up with. Their bright idea has spread like wildfire! Make it exclusive so everyone will be out hustling for an account. I've seen forums where people are positively mowing each other down to try to grab one.
I wonder if they plan to charge for some of it now that we're all hooked? Or maybe a premium service and a "lite."
Plus I guess this speaks to how close they are to releasing the "shipping version" (sounds weird to me since no one really ships anything anywhere for so many things these days).
Cheers
Wendy
  .
Ummm, if anybody else wants an invite, send me a private message with your e-mail address. Hah. Don't know how much demand there will be with my invite box, and everyone else's, overflowing
Many people "work" with computers Wendy and still haven't a clue what to do if they actually worked on them. :DQuote:

I too have 50 more gmails. I'll probably still have 50 by the end of this year because I don't know that many people (I'm a bit of a recluse). ;)
Maybe you could sell them on eBay there's 55 on the Australian eBay site alone.
Although some people state they are giving them away whereas others really appear to be trying to sell them.
939 on all eBay sites.
Looking at some on the US site, people are giving them away via dummy auctions so as to increase their positive feedback.
Seems like a bit of scamming going on.
I've got my 50 to give away already in just two days.
Must be because I redirected my Vdr and eBay emails to my gmail account instead of work so I can read them from home too.
ACTIVE accounts are credited,or so i'm told.Quote:

It's a bit like a gimicky virus.
I send it to 50 who then send it to 50 each who then send it to 50 each and that's 125,000 people who have found out about gmail !!!
If those then all sent it to 50 that's 6,250,000
And then 312,500,000 if they all sent it to 50........................
no WONDER they haven't BOTHERED to go public, rofl!
What happens if you don't give away all your gmail invites?
Set up an account.
Send yourself a whole bunch of invitations.
Follow the links to create accounts with different ids eg one for each family member.
Forward the first account to the second, the second to the third, the third to the fourth etc.
Use the first one for email from things like VDr, eBay etc etc so it will get plenty of usage.
Copies are forwarded on to second then third then fourth etc etc.
After a fwe days you will recieve 50 invites for each account ???
Don't know this for sure as I have only set up my two boys and my wife's accounts today.
The forwarding works, will tell you if it the 50 free invites works.
they just SIT there on your inbox page, lolQuote:

One I had used to send stuff now has 50 invites whereas the other 2 that had just received stuff, do not.
I used the other 2 to send some emails, will now wait to see if they both get 50 invites.
I now have 88 invites if anyone wants one (or more), just pm me your email address.
