Closing "questionable" threads?

That was a bit rude of you, don't you think? If I took the time to criticize everyone's spelling, nicknames, and the fact that they posted a question that one would think could be easily answered by someone holding the certification they claim to have, I wouldn't have much time left for anything else. Not to mention that I would build a reputation for myself as a grade-A jackass, and for the board as the place to go to get scorned and ridiculed.

Granted, you did give thelordglen the answer he sought-- but the price he pays to receive good advice should be having to look at banner ads-- not having to look at insults. It seems that this time he didn't notice your snide remarks-- or perhaps he chose to ignore them, showing the patience that I wish more people would have.

Please keep the feelings of others in mind when posting.

Then I got bitched out by another moderator for posting a reply and saying i'm sorry for beeing SOOOOOOO RUDE.... because I posted the above from my private messages so people would know what I am talking about...

A quick note to any users, if you don't want to se it on a billboard as a quote from you, don't type it...

I saw nothing wrong with posting a quote and still don't. be it from a public or private message...

This kind of thinking will surely upset the "Gestapo" Moderator types... AND there is nothing I or anyone else can do...

I will now shut my piehole and take whatever the moderators pass out like a good sheep as I do not want to quit coming here, and I surely don't want to get booted!!! Some good comments and some not so good.

Please read that over again. What is that statement? That statement is my opinion and is it fact? No, there is nothing there except an opinion of mine after reading all the above posts. But now onto some facts and qualifying statements.

JupitorMedia bought Virtual Dr awhile ago and kept BJ on is his capacity which has a tremendous amount of responsibility. This site is a big site to administer. Alot goes on which also requires alot of time.

As I recall, there were some heated discussions concerning the policies and how things were to be handled. As a result we have what we have today. One of the best volunteer help sites on the internet. This site helps people get started with their computers and those that take to it in turn start helping others.

To keep this site as it is an Acceptable Use Policy is in place and I as well as all of you agree to abide by it when we become a member. And yes there are certain legalities which have to be observed. That holds true for any organization. And please realize that we have to follow the laws of the United States as Virtual Dr is based here. We also realize that many members are from other countries all around the world whose laws can be and are different than ours pertaining to all sorts of things.

One big thing we all have here is to be able to disagree with one another and when it is done with respect there are no problems. I would not be a member of this site or any other if that were not the case.

Now onto the present issue. Guess what we, as modereators make mistakes and we have to correct those mistakes. Should we make a legitimate mistake and it is shown to us, the mistake is corrected. As it should be. But what about a thread that is seen differently by different people based on each individuals perception. It then has to be discussed and a determination made. That is why we have a feedback thread. We know issues will come up. And this is where each and everyone of you that is concerned comes in with your input. It gives us a balance that is needed. This way there is no "power stuff" going on.

And we don't need to see who is one up on anyone else. This serves no purpose. We have another way for members to solve issues and that is by Private Message. Or you can use EMail.

If any of you have any good ides for improving the AUP, let's have them. Or any other sugestions for that matter. Bring 'em up and post them in this Feedback forum.

And one other point that always needs to be done is to listen (read) what the other person is saying - always - and if you don't agree you can say so, but you can also ask a question to clarify any point brought up as well.

Just the fact this thread has not been locked says alot about how we operate on VirtuaDr. In other words, you do have a voice that is listened to by others.

From a personal standpoint this site is the best there is for helping people, none better anywhere. And I will back each and every member including other moderators, administrators, and Jupitomedia.

I also reserve the right to voice my opinion and respectively disagree with each and every member here. :) :)

Oh come on now boys and girls.

On the grand scale of life, where would you rate a closed thread that you weren’t even a part of? Maybe rate it about a minus 12 million.

The staff members here and other sites like this one are just hard working stiffs that help out when we can. We make judgment calls based on the moon, our mood, the time of day, the weather and all sorts of life experiences. When in doubt, we error on the side of “precaution.”

Another site I mod at the administrator/owner closes threads all day long due to rule #3 “Meaningful Subject Line.” Using the subject line HELP will get your thread closed. It drives me nuts and it drives a few members off the board. But, it’s HIS site and I go by what he says. The moral to this story is it could be a lot worse here.

So what do you say we just move on and get back to what we all came here for: Helping fellow computer users with computer related problems;)

To THE MICK: on the post by the student. If we gave him the questions for his survey then in essence we are doing his homework for him. These questions are supposed to come from his own thinking not that of others. So, what DELTREE told him was in compliance with our user agreement.

Having now read this thread (more than once) I am of the opinion that people are getting annoyed over threads being locked/closed for no apparent reason to them.

I recently saw a thread closed just because it was over 12 months old and one of our new members brought it back to the forefront by posting in it. That I didn't understand but I didn't question it.

Maybe if a thread you have inputed to is closed and you are unable to understand why then why not ask the mod concerned 'why'. I'm sure he/she will give an explanation.

Vdr is the best by far and to keep it that way it has to be policed accordingly and that is the job of Admin/Mod. Those who police the Police are the forum members and therefore if you ask 'why' you should get an answer.

Remember without members Vdr would not exist.

We are a happy family willing to learn and help each other, let's keep it that way by abiding with the rules of membership.

Some threads go round and round and round and am glad when a moderator closed it, wish I could have done it myself. :p

Fuelm@n, the option of closing threads for mods and admins only. I'm sure if you wish a thread to be closed we could do so if you post it or send one of us a PM.

You can delete you own thread if your started it, can't you?

What CHANNEY (sp?) was asing for was for some adult(s) to fill out a questionaire not create or help to create the questionaire. I have read the thread several times to check, double check and redouble check to make sure I'm correct here. Like KatMac (sp?) I didn't respond as I didn't feel I fit within his criteria or I would have responded in the affirmative to his request. I realize all the mods have demands on their time and having to actually read an entire post rather than assume that previous response from another moderator was correct but if they actually did a proper response might actually be yeilded.

Case in point.

I started a thread recently titled "Are you happy with your search engine." I prefaced the thread with 2 articles from internet news related websites showing that I am not alone with a growing disatisfaction for Google's burgeoning diversification when their principle meaning for existance was becoming a pale reflection of what it started out to be. Several of our precious moderators saw fit to provide me with a tutorial of how best to search using Google.

If the mods don't have enough time or can't be bothered to spend enough time to read the post in its entirety I would propose that there is either a need for more moderators or perhaps a need to clean house.
