Hi Mach2 and others,
I still use ZA ver 2.6.88 (free) and it has all the MailSafe extensions and works like a charm. I am connected to the Internet via a Linksys BEFSR41 router and a Motorola Surfboard 4200 modem on ATTBI (now known as ComCast). I share the connection with another PC that connects to the router (no file or printer sharing between the two PCs).
It's installed on both machines and works great.
I DO like the MailSafe feature (37ext). :D
Simple, Works, doesn't eat much or get moody  :p :o
If i were married, the way i'd like my wife to be...:p :DQuote:

Hey there buffalo! long time..
update.. man just got thought the registry battle of my machine "monster" life in a long time. ZA is extremely reliable.. MSN chat fingers down my throat finally got rid of that crap version. 5.0
opened up the programs and got rid of all the crap calling.
I also still run pccillin and web washer. I'm on dsl now. so any alarms come through the same isp IP. so their catching hell but I'm not (actually they recommened ZA as a fire wall LOL I recommend it to them long ago.)
LOL :D

OK, I have to add my input to this one finally. I have been running Zone Alarm for a long time, the Pro version, and just recently switched to the 3.7 new version. It has been very good to me, and once I got used to the new GUI, I saw that it did the same as my old Pro version did.
When I installed it, I did tell it to keep my old settings so things are running the same as before my upgrade.
I also run ISA from Microsoft, which is really tedious to configure, but once you get it running, it is the best to block the world out. The major drawback is the price, I got a break, but normally it runs as high as $1300.00 per copy, (it hurts just to write that price in here). I have had my machines tested, and so far nothing has been able to get in, unless I tell it to come in, that's the way it should be anyway.
In reality, my vote goes to the Zone Alarm Pro, either version 2.6, or 3.7. I think they are the best ones out there.
Microsoft's ISA server Firewall is great too, but very few, including myself are able to afford the high premium to own it. It is, afterall, an Enterprise level tool.
Well, that's my $02 cents..... :D :D
tiny gets my vote
a little harder to configure but at least you know what is going on
didnt realize they went to a pay format ... use the link provided by ridgernr to get the free version
$1300.00 us bucks? no way.
Mach, if you roast me, just make sure I come out medium well LOL.
All in all, it seems like a lot of you still like ZA, so I will give version 2.6 a shot..as I see it is listed at www.olderversion.com. My BI hasn't expired yet, but I saved the ZA 2.6. exe to a zip file, for when the time comes. I'll also give Sygate a shot. I'm going to run each separately for 2 days..and see which ones seems to protect me the most, AND make sure neither crashes or freezes me up.
Lisa,
This is a good security test from Steve Gibson here .
Yes...I use Shield's Up regularly :) I've probably probed my ports more times than I've ..ohh..nevermind. lol
I don't wanna know...Or do I?...Maybe...oh well...
medium rare? LOL.......
hey nobody says it's perfect but lisa2k has guts!
hmmm a fighter for justice and hmmm perhaps pizza with toppings?
so when can the gang come over for a cookout?
You're okay in my book!
mach
Actually...I think a more appropriate answer to the roast would have been well "done" :P... You're also ok in my book, Mach *aka Jeff*...as long as you don't penetrate my most sensitive areas...oh wait..LOL
OK..this is a computer technical forum. I need to redirect my focus back to ZA, Sygate etc.....but forget Tiny Personal..hehe
I just spent the last 20 minutes reading through this thread and just wanted to thank Lisa for posting it. I just downloaded ZA older version 2.6, which I had before but couldn't find my cd with it on there. So thanks Lisa. ;)
